Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Breaks Records with $12 Million

Well, you needn't worry about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix being a hit this summer. According to Variety, the wizard flick racked in an amazing $12 million just with its preliminary midnight showings on Wednesday night.

This is the biggest midnight opening in Hollywood history. The previous record holder was The Lord Of The Rings: The Return of The King, which only sold $8 million worth of tickets when it opened at midnight.

I guess the sci-fi geeks like their late night shows. So far, the film has made an international sum of $13 million. It could very well become the highest grossing one-day opener in history. I guess will have to wait until later tomorrow to see if the predictions are correct.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released July 11th, 2007 and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Harry Melling, Jason Boyd, Richard Macklin, Kathryn Hunter, Miles Jupp, Fiona Shaw, Richard Griffiths. The film is directed by David Yates.

I agree with dartboromir. I think Order of The Phoenix would be the highest midnight showing of all time opening on a Wednesday. Revenge of the Sith opened on a Thursday I believe.

That 'record' thingy is a load of bull. The precious and STILL record holder for midnight showing is REVENGE OF THE SITH with over $16 Million. Let's get our numbers right here, thanks.
