Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Hauls in $58.4 Million on Opening Day!

It wasn't quite a record day, but the latest Hogwarts adventure rang up plenty of dough at the box office on its first day. According to Variety, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince took in $58.4 million on its opening day yesterday.

The film opened in 4.275 theaters on Wednesday and the first-day tally includes a record-breaking $22.2 million from midnight screenings alone. The $58.4 million mark is the second-best Wednesday total, behind this summer's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and its $62 million tally. The Dark Knight's $67.2 million tally is still the highest single-day gross in film history.

As far as the rest of the week and weekend are concerned, some forecasts put the film's five-day tally between $125 million and $150 million, with some even suggesting a higher figure than that.

We'll be sure to update you with all the upcoming box office figures from the weekend as soon as we have the numbers in.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released July 15th, 2009 and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Gambon, Dave Legeno, Elarica Gallacher, Jim Broadbent, Geraldine Somerville, Bonnie Wright, Julie Walters. The film is directed by David Yates.

It won't beat Tranformers 2 five day total. I say.. 58 mil on Wed... 27 mil on Thurs and about 105 on the weekend... for a total of about 190 million. Which is damn clost to Transformers' 200 mil so HP may prove me wrong but I think its gonna fall just a bit shy. Both will still probably be the top domestic grossers for this year. Don't see any other films matching them. No... not even New Moon.

the competition is ON FIRE. but i know this will put T2 in his pocket with the quality. Overall, HP wins.
