Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows to Be Released in Two-Parts?

The UK's Mail on Sunday is reporting that the seventh and final Harry Potter film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be split into two separate films. This comes as an artistic decision, not a financial one.

The crew working on the sixth Potter film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince were informed of the decision this week. The seventh novel is 776 pages long, and Rowling insists that splitting the film in two will allow fan favorite scenes to stay in the movie.

A source close to the film states, "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."

Rowling writes on her website, "It is simply impossible to incorporate every storyline into a film under four hours long."

Warner Brothers simply stated, "People are discussing all possibilities."

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 was released November 19th, 2010 and stars Bill Nighy, Emma Watson, Richard Griffiths, Harry Melling, Daniel Radcliffe, Julie Walters, Bonnie Wright, Rupert Grint. The film is directed by David Yates.

This is ridiculous. It has nothing to do with artistic expression like some have said. This has solely to do with Money. Because if they were so worried about fan favorites staying in the movie, why is this a sudden concern? The first two movies were the best. Not only because they actually had Dumbledore in them (Yes, I understand this wasn't a casting mistake, but still, he was awesome. God rest his soul.) but because they followed the books very closely. The rest of the movies have had stuff taken out of them that I didn't understand why. This has got to be the one of the biggest loads of bs I have heard in a while. Don't get me wrong. I love the Harry Potter books. Just don't pee on my face and tell me it's raining. This is all about money and nothing to do with the fans. There is a different fan base for the books and for the movies pretty much because the fans of the book don't see what they loved about the series in the movies. Yet again, I will say, This is stupid, and whoever believes that this isn't all for hype/more money gain, is also just oblivious.

Well since it's the last movie that will be made for Harry Potter, they'd better get it right. Teester thats how the books are also, the last one Deathly Hallows was pretty dark at times.
Can't wait to see Half Blood Prince

Yeah, noticed as Harry's got older, the storyline is getting darker and more adult-themed too.

I don't know, the actor is getting to be a little to old. It's starting to get creepy.

Hey Vampire, LOTR or HP? Gotta be LOTR for me. Must admit, reading the books (including The Hobbit) helps, but the films were amazing masterpieces too.

It's about half a year wait I think, and a TON of stuff has been left out of these movies. Two parts are pretty much necessary for this film, if they won't put it into one, they need the entire book storyline to get this ending right, and anyway I'm super psyched for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince this November!!!!!

Got to hold my hands up and say I've not got round to reading the HP books yet, so not sure if any important info was missed out. I know with LOTR, important info was added in the extended versions. It was just a balance getting the story across without people getting bored in the cinema. For me, I could have happily watched it. But one book in two parts? Hope it really is necessary, and not just a greedy ploy. Also, hope there won't be a long wait between the films. A year between each LOTR film nearly drove me crazy, or crazier lol.

They made each of the Lord of the Rings films 3 hours long with an almost hour long extension to each of them when released on DVD. The HP films should've been doing this all along. Why film all the nitty gritty details now when the films should have been an hour longer than they were? Book 5 is longer than book 7, and it was also the shortest of the films. I don't see the connection here. Also, it would not have killed them to add an extra 2 minutes in movie 5 for harry to poke his head in the fire and talk to Kreacher, now would it?

having just re-read all the books the films miss out so much of the good stuff. if putting the last film into two films so we can see all that is in the book then im up for watching them. i love harry potter and i could sit throgh a 4 hour film easy.

Having just re-read the last two books, I totally agree with the decision. To get the whole emotional content of the book in will, I think anyway, need at least 5 hours. Suitable break point? My choice would be the destruction by Ron of the locket (spoiler, sorry).

she didnt get told to stop writing it. whos your source on that one and as far as Jk not going along with the two films. she said if you read the whole article she even felt it was the right thing to do. now as far as putting it into a 4 hour movie that takes a ton of money. and time. and the way time is today, time is the most valuable thing there is today. you need time to make money and hollywoood is really pressing on that now of days and they just would have a rushed closer to the series. Brings back memories of Spider-man 3. i think this is the right move.

I would happily sit through a 4 hour movie!!! I want it all at once. I don't think it's right to split it, it will ruin the continuity. Have an intermission if needs be! Don't tell me it's not financial! Lies, all lies!

I think they are just making these for money! I mean come on the next one in two parts, thats just stupid!

They told the lady to stop writing Harry Potter books cuz they are getting tired of making the movies! I honestly think they shoulda stopped at the 3rd Movie!

Are they gonna keep making these until the actor is 40 yrs old ?

  24. Radimus-83

you see when you say franchise, i get sceptical of why their really doing it. like alot of things they could end up ruining it by trying to squeeze more money out of it. though i don't really see J.K Rowling going that way, ach who knows???

Normally, I'd say no, but there is alot of stuff form the books that aren't in the movies that should have been in the movies. It's a good way to end the Harry Potter movie franchise.

I have watched the movies and recently read or let rephrase that attempted to read the books but was so dismayed that some parts of the book were not in movies that i did not finish the books. Now if making the last installment in two parts can get the movie as close as possible to the book i am all for it

i can definitely understand why they are doing it. even the author of the book is saying its a good idea. Right from the source herself. you cant go wrong there.

I think this is a terrible idea. There's so much of the seventh book that is unnecessary; the last 12 chapters are really all that's needed to be unedited. Even aside, book 5 proved that you can take a long book and make a shorter movie and not lose the spirit of the story. Hell, Order was the shortest movie so far! Honestly, you'd be stupid not to realize that the majority of The Deathly Hallows (up until the last 12 chapters) is pretty much dicking around on a wild goose chase.
