@skywise it's not so much that I did not like Yates' movies as it is that I was very disappointed with them. He wasted three good books in his bid to make artsy movies. They look gorgeous and have some nice directorial ideas but knowing what those stories were in the books and how he could have done things this or that way, I can't be satisfied with the end result. I have the feeling he will spend about half an hour just in Harry's emotional struggles at the end and pass by quickly the dragon at Gringotts and other nice sequences. It's not that I just want mindless action but a balance between drama and action.

@aoshi I absolutly agree with you on Cuaron, Prisoner is still my favorite film and it is the most unique movie visually in the series. Yates seems to focus on the character interactions as apposed to the action and i agree....the first time i saw Order of the Phoenix i was bored. However, after watching them back to back recently i was able to tolerate...no, enjoy his take on the Potter universe.
I know you are right but i am just trying to be optimistic because this is what we got and its not going to change. i know a lot of people did not like DH part 1 but i really think that Yates (as i said before) is finally developing a visual style that is unique. I'm going to see it regardless so i have to take it for what it is. Cross your fingers becuase love it or hate it, its the final film and it is what it is.

Picture 1:
Neville: "Ah, crap. How am going to swing my ball out of this rumble?"
Picture 3:
Voldemort: "Lucius . . . why is your son holding hands with those two boys?"

@skywise I think Yates is a master cinematographer but he knows crap about telling an adventure story. So far his Potter movies have been the most boring (and that's including Chris Columbus!) but also the most beautiful looking. He has managed in each and everyone of the Potter adaptations to suck the action and adventure right out of them. I thought that since Deathly Hallows the book is loaded with action nearly from page 1 he would have no other choice but to direct some good action, but no. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt prior to this movie, but now...
I only wish they would have stuck with Cuaron, his Prisoner of Azkaban is by far my favorite Potter film. He knew how to make it stylish, magical, and adventurous. Too bad the hardcore and nitpicky fans decided they wanted every word of the books in the films (like Columbus was trying to do) and basically ran Cuaron out of the franchise.

Hey that pic of Harry with the sword is not him struggling to survive(per se) but reaching for the Hufflepuff cup in Bellatrix's vault at Gringotts. And you would look old too if you spent the whole year getting beaten, cursed and living in hiding at a wizard school just cause your friends with Harry Potter

@aoshi hmmm that was not what i intended to convey. I found the first part was a smaller story, sort of the calm before the storm but the moments of tension were precise and tight. While the battles were not the epic grand finale that is coming, they were still shot with an epic style. Yates (after all this time) FINALLY is getting a sense of this world and he shoots it beautifully.
But to be fair, if you havnt enjoyed the series up to now then dont bother.

@skywise the fact that half of the book is nothing but epic battles and yet you never get that epic feeling in the first part worries me.

poor Neville he sure gets his ass kicked and look at his face, its dropping on one side. I cant wait to see how they do this sequence. I just rewatched Deathly Hallows 1 last night and while it has its slow moments..you know the final battle will be epic. Hell half of that book is nothing but epic battles. I cant wait.
