Ramis himself sent an email to Mark Caro's Pop Machine Blog at The Chicago Tribune explaining the matter at hand:
"Yes, Columbia Pictures is developing a script for Ghostbusters 3 with my year one writing partners, Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg. Judd Apatow is co-producing Year One and has made several other films for Sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. Aykroyd, Ivan Reitman and I are consulting at this point, and according to Dan, Bill Murray is willing to be involved on some level. He did record his dialogue for the new Ghostbusters video game, as did Danny and I, and Ernie Hudson. The concept is that the old Ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. Not much else to say at this point. Everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we'll take it from there. Best, Harold."
So, there you go folks. If all goes well, we can look forward to seeing Ghostbusters 3 in 2010.
Ghostbusters 3 is in development and stars Sigourney Weaver, Anna Faris, Eliza Dushku, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson. The film is directed by Ivan Reitman.

I've still not made my mind up about this. Still, the movie's still in it's early stages, and I think the idea's interesting, but has the Ghostbusters series still got what it takes, especially with the original cast not having a central role? Is this another idea that only worked for the 80's? My heart says yes, but my head says no at the moment. I'm prepared to be proven wrong with this, here's hoping I am.

Err
see the thing i don't like is your essentially calling him a one trick pony, but i have more faith in him than that.
clearly when he stars in movies written by himself or his friends he has been portayed as a stoner very realistically, but the guy's career is just beginning.
wait a few more movies and i think we'll all see that he has potentials beyond what we have seen so far.

in your opinion.

err, getting ahead of yourself there lol. I think his movies are funny, but he doesn't belong in the Ghostbusters world.

Err
rogen is the funniest up n comer currently making movies. being as ghostbusters will probably be a family film i doubt that you have to worry about his character (assuming he's even in the film) being a stoner.
if you dont think he's funny, dont watch his movies.

His character is dumb in his films. Rogen plays the stoner type. I don't really want a Ghostbuster to be a stoner talking about getting high. I'm sorry that I have standards.

i agree with diaigma...INDY was so horrific that im scared. BUT i trust all of those involved alot more than the kids behind INDY 4. So all in all, i just want to see the gang back up on the big screen. Itd be nice to reintroduce GB's to the new generation, they missed out on the best movies ever.

With hope, this won't be another Indy Jones 4...that should have been made ten years ago.

Bill Murray POSSIBLY involved? I won't believe it till I see it is from his own words. Thought it was gonna be called "Ghostbusters III: Hellbent," guess that's old news.

Punisher, *sigh*... Why the F*CK would you want a stoner Ghostbuster like Rogen? Yes, he is funny in HIS movies. This movie isn't that character. He's too dumb looking and acts dumb to be a Ghostbuster. I mean, they have to be somewhat intelligent to be Ghostbusters...three of them are doctors. Yes Bill Murray acted like he had no idea what he was doing but he did it with style and he still looked smart. He doesn't look like a afro-haired pothead.
I'm all for Paul Rudd & Jason Segel though. They look mature. They appear mature. Even if they say stupid funny things, they can still pull it off. Paul Rudd has some of the best smart ass one-liners I have ever heard.

Ya'll know what that means, *NEW Ghostbusters! No one else can fill in the original cast's shoes, but I'm still wondering who will. I don't think there should be a sequel, but might as well stay positive and open-minded since it's a go.
