One of Akira Kurosawa's most heralded films will get an Americanized remake through the teaming of L.A. and Tokyo companies. According to Variety, Kurosawa's 1950 film Rashomon will be remade by L.A.-based Harbor Light Entertainment and Tokyo-based Lotus.

The project will be a contemporary English-language project dubbed Rashomon 2010. The story will revolve around a court case involving a rape and a murder and the quest to find out what really happened.

The two companies are also planning on making an animated film entitled The Masque of Black Death, which was based off a script Kurosawa wrote in 1977. This film will take place in the early 20th Century with a disease that wipes out most of the Russian population.

No casting or production schedule for either film has been announced as of yet, but it was said that they are aiming for a 2010 release for both films, in conjunction of the 100th anniversary of Kurosawa's birth.
