We reported on the film last month, with Zwart listed as an executive producer and possible director on the project, but now it seems he will be directing after all.
"I'm very excited to direct it, yes," he told MTV. "Given that all the planets line up right for it - you never know if a movie gets made - but that's certainly something we're all hoping for."
He also said that screenwriters Jay Scherick and David Ronn were still working on the script and he talked about how the film could be in 3D as well.
"It's going to be perceived as a totally live-action movie. That's what's so great about movies like Avatar. They blur out the border between what's live-action and what's CG these days. That's the landscape I'd like to be in."
On the subject of Avatar, Zwart said that it's entirely possible that "Tycoon" would be a 3-D picture. "I definitely think that's a possibility," he said. "I've been fascinated by 3-D since I was a kid. I made my own homemade 3-D cameras when I was really young. I think if there was ever a 3-D movie, it should be a roller coaster movie!"

MTV also talked to Zwart about a sequel to The Karate Kid and, while there have only been ideas tossed around at this point, the director would still like to be on board, and he also would like to forge new ground for a sequel, instead of following the original films.
"I personally think it's now so much on its own two feet, given the success, that it would be interesting to see where we could take it without ever thinking about the old ones."
And Zwart said he would love to be the one at the helm of a Karate Kid sequel. "If they think I'm appropriate for it," Zwart added. "I think Sony has been fantastic for me. They're the best studio to work for. They're such a filmmaker-friendly studio. And [Will Smith's production company] Overbrook, in my opinion, is by far the coolest company. So, yes, I would love to work with them again."

We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on both RollerCoaster Tycoon and a sequel to The Karate Kid as soon as we have more information.

i agree with AVATAR. how bout instead of spending the money to make this movie, we spend it and create an ACTUAL rollercoaster theme park and we all go ride the coasters! that seems like a better way to spend millions of dollars.

Here's an idea. Instead of watching a movie about roller coasters, I'd rather go to the real theme parks and ride on them myself.

So were gonna watch an engineer construct a theme park, with sometimes comical results, and his dream of getting 600+ visitors within 4 months time? That'll be the plot of the movie?

seems like hollywood is running out of a lot of ideas if they are going to board games and video games like that.....
