Happy Feet Is the No. 1 Seller and Rental for 2007 Thus Far
In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like consumer spending on home video was $10.7 billion "in the first six months of the year, down 2% when compared with the midway point of 2006."
In addition to this, "rental spending was projected to remain flat at $3.9 billion, while DVD sales were pegged at $6.8 billion, down 3%."
Warner Bros. Home Video won the prize as Happy Feet sold 8.6 million units.
Fox Home Entertainment come in at No. 2 with Night at the Museum selling 6.6 million units.
Resurfacing again was Warner Home Video with The Departed at No. 3. This DVD sold 5.1 units.
The No. 4 selling title was Open Season from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. It sold 4.2 million units.
Placing at No. 5 was Paramount Picture's redo of Charlotte's Web. It sold 3.8 million units.
Coming in at No. 6 with 3.7 million units was The Pursuit of Happyness. The No. 7 release with 3.6 million units was Casino Royale. Both of these titles are from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
The rest of the top three were all animated titles. No. 8 was Buena Vista Home Entertainment's Cinderella III: A Twist in Time with 3.5 million units sold. Buena Vista also scored the No. 9 position with their Platinum Edition of Peter Pan (it sold 3.4 million units).
Lastly, Paramount and DreamWorks sold 3.2 million units of Flushed Away to take to the No. 10 position.
Rentals were somewhat different with the order going as follows:
No. 1 was Happy Feet, No. 2 was The Departed, No. 3 was Night at the Museum, No. 4 was Casino Royale, No. 5 was The Pursuit of Happyness, No. 6 was Peter Pan, No. 7 was Fox Home Entertainment's Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, No. 8 was Open Season, No. 9 was Charlotte's Web and No. 10 was Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.
