Halo Movie Stops Production

Production on the big screen adaptation of the popular video game Halo has stopped, according to director Neill Blomkamp in an interview with Creativity Online:

We heard you were off the film and it was surprising. How did that happen?

The film is entirely dead. In the configuration it was in. Whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration. It's not so much me as the entire vessel sank. Basically, it was a combination of; there were two studios involved that weren't getting along in the process of making it, Universal and Fox. That kind of stuff happens, it's a fragile industry. So the film collapsed at the end of last year, and it's been dead, ever since then. I'll be curious to see what happens.

Well, the game's come out and it's outsold everything. You have to have some sort of hope. Peter Jackson said something like,"We'll see what happens when the game comes out."

There was not even one percent of my mind in doing those short pieces to try and resurrect the film. And I think maybe that's because I'm closer to the film, I know how hard it fell, and I know that doing things like that was not how you're going to get it back on its feet. I never went about making those little pieces like I was trying to resurrect the film. If you're spending that much money there's too many different items that have to align themselves in order for things to work out. And if that happens, that happens. But those shorts certainly aren't going to be what leads it on.

This game is one of the most popular video games ever made, and know their trying to make a movie about it that will propably be the most popular movie ever to be made yet 2 movie making industries turn it down how stupid can they be.I have all three halo games and i have a reserved copy of halo wars. i have seen all the short films and thought they were amazing. I love the games and i will be the first one in line at the movie theaters to see the halo movie. who ever does go with the halo movie will make alot of money.their are over 20 million people who are halo fans. take 20 million times around 12 dollars for movie tickets get the picture a lot of money plus the amount their going to make from the movie when it becomes a dvd wich will be around 20 dollars so add 20 million times 20 dollars alot more money. the halo series is the greatist game ever invented. harry pach kaya and mavinx you guys are the retardest people on earth doom was awesome and halo will be awesome and halo 3 was not childish in anyway you guys have no life.I can get more people to say the halo movie will be awesome and the halo series games are awesome than you can get to say they arent so grow up and get a life. bungie should try to fund the movie themselves. the game was so successful that halo 3 caused the box office to suffer when it dropped. as long as bungie is closely connected to the movie theres no doubt in my mind that the movie wont be a success.

There has never been a movie based off a game that was good. I doubt Halo will be good.

Would be a horrible movie. Probably on par with Doom.

I prefer Gears, Hopefully the new game comes out soon as well as the movie. I played Halo 3 and thought it was too childish at times.

The first short on the link did look good, hopefully the movie gets made someday.

CRAP!!!! How stupid are movie execs these days? When a cash cow franchise gets droped in your lap, you're supposed to shut-up and roll with it. This is a movie that I think a large audience is interested in, not just gamers, but sci-fi fans and action movie buffs would probably enjoy it (assuming it's done right). Well now that Bunjie has officially parted ways with Microsoft (although they retained a minority share hold) maybe something good will happen (unless that's why development got stoped).

One of the most successful video game franchises in video gam history, theres gonna be a movie, eventually. Success like this isnt just let go and never expanded. There might not be a Halo movie directed by this guy but there will be one.
