A Halo movie could still happen
"We're still interested in making an excellent Halo movie," O'Connor said. "We've created an awful lot of documentation and materials to support a feature film. We have a good idea of what kind of story we want to tell, but won't move on it until there's a great reason to do it. We're in no particular hurry."
We also reported in April that O'Connor said the Halo movie would still happen, but it seems that no further progress has been made at this time. It was said that scripts by Alex Garland, Stuart Beattie, Josh Olson and D.B. Weiss were still being developed by Microsoft and considered as potential blueprints for a movie.
It was also said that Microsoft was, "intently watching" the television market for a possible Halo TV series as well. The latest video game in the lucrative franchise, "Halo Reach," will arrive in stores on September 14.
We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on a Halo movie or TV series as soon as we have more information.
Halo is in development .

Halo 3 was Halo 2.5. This game has created what I call the Halo Effect. A great game, movie or what have you comes out and it's an instant cash cow. And they come out with more installments that are almost copy paste of each other leaving the original so different and superior than the others.
The Matrix and Pirates of the Carabian are prime examples.

@Insert so then its settled, basically all the other directors we know of that would be great to make this movie, all seem to be busy focusing on their upcomin hit movie sequels, big deal, they have a choice if they wanna focus on this one to or not, so they dont really have to focus on the movies they have planned

The Mime sees your point.... and The Mime kind of agrees. Come to think of it, all the movies that he's well known for, (Titanic, AVATAR) are filled with those cheesy romance stuff so.... mnheee....

If James Cameron took over this movie, he would turn it into a chick flick, like avatar LOLz. instead of making it an all guy action thing, he will throw in sum romantic love, lol. and not 1 drop of blood or gore scene. not that it will b a saw movie but it does deal w guns and blowing chit up. so ya gotta have sumthing bust up right. lolz

@IamBATMAN.....Why so?...hehehe, yeah to The Mime it is kind of stupid but the way he handled AVATAR is the kind of movie making The Mime would want to see in this Halo film, if it's still gonna happen.

@FrankenFate: Only one person out of those three would be a decent choice, and the three of them "teaming up" would never happen, let alone be a good idea.
Let's summarize the list of candidates floating around this forum: James Cameron and Quentin Tarantino would never touch a pre-existing property like this in a million years. Cameron is focused on his Avatar saga and Tarantino, if he ever does something that's not original, which is unlikely, it won't be a big budget science fiction movie.
Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich would basically bring the same technique to a movie like this: big explosions, loud sounds, lots of special effects, and not much else. And, when that did happen, everyone would open their mouths with criticism even though they suggested them in the first place. Bay is good for Transformers, but Halo requires something different. Something, dare I say, better.
In a nutshell, you're all picking the "obvious" choices, film makers who have tried their hand at sicence fiction or epics. That doesn't mean they're right for Halo, or would ever touch Halo. The only decent choices I've seen mentioned are Abrams, who should focus on Star Trek, and to be honest, isn't that gritty or raw of a director to take on Halo, even if he is good at sci-fi. We all know that if Nolan ever got his hands on Halo, it would probably shatter each and every one of our brains...but let's be honest. He seems preoccupied with leading DC's super heroes right now, and a quality film maker like him might find a video game adaptation to be a risk for his career...after all, he is regarded as one of the smartest people in Hollywood.
Again, I'm gonna think outside the box and suggest people like Bryan Singer or James McTeigue. Of course, Blomkamp/Jackson would be epic, and is the best choice, but it might be too late at this point for that. Fingers crossed, though.

James Cameron would make this one a show to remember. If he was not so busy working on the next "Avatar" I would recommend him. It is just that a great game like "Halo"; one that has satisfied, internationally, the gaming experience of every gamer used it, could use a creative mind like Mr. Cameron himself.

A TV series of this scale is WAY to expensive; I don't see any network taking the chance with it and Microsoft Big Wigs are not as smart as they seem for even considering a TV series; I see even CBS the most watched station turning it down. I so agree that Nolan, P. Jackson, Abrams are great choices to take on this challenge; don't count out James Cameron. He is always looking to take another step up from his prev. stuff. Anything is possible; except a TV series.

If jj abrams, Christopher nolan and peter Jackson teamed up for this, this would be awesome. I just hope they make the movie as good as the live action commercials.

I have to agree with WiseGuy.Think of what J.J. Abrams did with Star trek.I've never been a fan of Star Trek and yet I thought that movie was just utterly amazing. If J.J. got a hold of this it may be a worth while game adaptation.

Abrams has Star Trek to deal with. Tarantino would never touch it in a million years, and he probably shouldn't. Snyder...maybe. But I think his style is suited for a more stylized game, like Assassin's Creed or something. Halo requires a real, gritty, feel.

I can see a TV series happening but first things first, do a mini series. Like what they did with BSG, to test the ground, some people may hate the idea but not all.
As a film, literary use the story line from the video game.

how am i over reacting? The first game came out in 2001 and since then has pulled in 24 million dollars in sales topping every other gaming franchise out there, except for Super Mario. The world of Halo has so much going for it that it doesnt even need a great story to work for the big screen and yet it hasn't happened. Why? Cause it wont... and if it does, big IF, but if it does it will be 6 or 7 years down the road when people will have lost interest in it.

@lanBATMAN ur just over reacting, of course it wouldnt have happened yet, if it did then gears of war and bioshock would have already happened to and tho moved all tho movies up to 2012
