Guillermo del Toro will not direct Hellboy 3
This is what Mike Mignola had to say about the non-existent possibilities of another Hellboy sequel ever being directed by Guillermo del Toro.
"Last I heard he said he would not make it. Guillermo -- who I love -- in every interview there's a new story on what his next movie is and he honestly believes he's going to do all these things. But last I heard, he said 'I'm never gonna get back to Hellboy. I'm not surprised because he won't live long enough to do a tenth of the movies he's told me he's going to make. I can't imagine him making a Hellboy 3. He's very enthusiastic and says he's going to do all these things....ummm....he's cute [laughed]."
Guillermo del Toro's next movie will be Pacific Rim. It is not known at this point if another director will take over the Hellboy franchise, or if it is officially kaput.
Hellboy II: The Golden Army was released July 11th, 2008 and stars Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, John Alexander, James Dodd, Seth MacFarlane, Luke Goss, Anna Walton. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro.
Hellboy was released April 2nd, 2004 and stars Ron Perlman, John Hurt, Selma Blair, Rupert Evans, Karel Roden, Jeffrey Tambor, Doug Jones, Brian Steele. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro.

Del Toro was the only reason to watch these films. without him, it will lose its edge.

Alfonso Cuaron might be a good choice to do a third film, assuming Del Toro doesn't go back, but as I said I wouldn't count him out. Even if he doesn't direct, there's a good chance he would act as producer, as this franchise was kind of his baby to begin with.

well at least he gave us a nice asthetic and format that is a good jump off point for many other talented directors. I loved his Hellboys tho and this is sad news. Not surprising, but sad all the same.

I think thats a bit harsh for him to say. I've enjoyed the universe emensely because its so far out there. His designs are like nothing that has ever been seen on film. He's a true auteur. If he doesn't come back to Hellboy perhaps its for the best. Still one can look at the girth of the man and see that it won't be long before he kills himself if he doesn't get in shape. Of course the same could be said of me. Yet I'm still rather savelt. Just saying.

@shuabert So I've heard. I've had the intention to watch it for quite some time, just haven't had a clear spot in my schedule.

@ejk1 I was also surprised that @thaphoenix didn't pack his martini!
Back on topic, this isn't affecting me as much as others, but that's probably because I haven't seen Golden Army yet.

Wow. I can't believe this. I never thought it would happen. Hell, I'm willing to bet that no one saw this coming. I mean, who would've thought that @thaphoenix would get so upset, that he couldn't sip his martini? I for one, am flummoxed :P
As for this news, I'm with @shuabert especially in regards to his second sentence. Hell, I didn't care that much for the sequel, but the moment in Witches Lair made me amped up for the third film. Not doing it would be a waste.

The hell with that. He clearly intended to do a trilogy or he wouldn't have set up so many seeds for it in the first two films. I sincerely hope he does finish off the series with a final film, because his style and tone are perfect for this character.

@k-man I've tried to curtail my responses recently after taking some heat for my feelings regarding Green Lantern, but you just brought a smile to my face. I agree 100% with everything you said. Well put, friend.

@k-man I agree that he has alot of great films to work on and to come out. But I 100% dissagree on your assessment of Hellboy as a character. Hellboy is the ultimate "Sin or Sinner" character. Imagine Satan with a heart, and a soul. Hellboy is to a point the embodiement of evil. But chooses to be the figure of good. I hounestly thought he was lame myself until I watched the first movie. He does look way over the top. But just becouse he dosnt wear a cap, fly, or shoot beams of fire from his eyes, dosnt make him even less of a kool character once you break down his parts.

Good.....Hellboy is one of the lamest characters ever created and its been a terrible waste of Guillermo's talent. Glad to see he is finally dead set on other projects! I am amped for Pacific Rim and In the Mountains of Madness. Assuming Pacific Rim is half of what I think it will be, I can guarantee Mountains will be green lit as soon as it's released. After that we have both Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde and Frankenstein to look forward to.....as well as a possible re-imagining of The Witches. So that is one hell of a lineup of "possible" future films by Guillermo. I dont know about the rest of you......but I'm friggin excited to see what he does with all those!!!
