Guillermo del Toro to rewrite Pacific Rim due to Japan disaster
Released last week, a detailed synopsis of the film has Guillermo del Toro creating two worlds. The first is an alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after a historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan. The second is "The Anteverse," another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean's surface.
The project is believed to be budgeted at $150 million and will be R rated. Production will start sometime this summer.
Pacific Rim comes to theaters July 12th, 2013 and stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Diego Klattenhoff, Burn Gorman, Robert Kazinsky. The film is directed by Guillermo del Toro.

I'm so sick of political correctness. I'm sorry for what happened in Japan, it truly sucks, but I hate the idea that they would change a scene in a movie so as not to offend people that suffered a real catastrophe. I have nes for the producer, your movie is a work of fiction, and will be seen as such. Earthquakes are alot different that a giant monster attaking a city.

@k-man I'm not too excited. I won't care if it's PG-13, but it would be cool if it was R-rated.

@insertusernamehere - Don't get too excited about that R-Rating that movieweb has posted because EVERY single other thing I have read on this at other sites has claimed that it will definitely be a PG-13 rating. I would LOVE to have an R-rating for this but I think it is a typo on Movieweb's part.

but a lot of movies are believed to be R rated and then out of nowhere they pull a PG13 for more ticket stubs. (Battle L.A., Prometheus, Adjustment Bureau, etc)

That's good, at least.

Ugh...stupid political correctness. Japan won't be attacked by earthquake in the movie, it'll be attacked by monsters. And it's not like that hasn't happened before. Japan is ground zero for monster attacks. It's just a movie. I understand and it's terrible what is happening over there. A Japanese foregin exchange student lived with me once, that I still say in contact with, so don't think I don't. But this sh*t happens every time...someone doesn't wanna offend anyone. Same sh*t happened with Cloverfield...people got pissed because they thought they were mimicking the 9/11 attacks. IT'S A MONSTER MOVIE.

if you didn't see this coming a mile away...
i can understand the sentiment, but seeing as to how Godzilla destroyed Tokyo and other Japanese cities on multiple occasions i think this is almost more disrespectful than destroying Osaka. here's my reasoning: having the monster ravage Japan (again) almost pays homage to the nation that birthed these movies. it's not about destroying a nation, but honoring a film tradition and genre that they created. moving it to Hong Kong or some other asian city is almost disrespectful (for the first film, that is; if they want the monster to hop back into the ocean and terrorize all pacific islands and nations after Japan that would be fine by me).

It's about time we started seeing the "impact" of Cloverfield...
It took too long for a new Kaiju-type film...

just one question...how can this get such a large budget AND AN R RATEING WHEN THE ALIENS PREQUEL HAS TO FIGHT TOOTH AND NAIL AND SUSPOSEABLY LOST TO A LOWER BUDGET AND A PG RATEING ?
