Guillermo Del Toro Not Confirmed to Direct The Hobbit Yet

Guillermo del Toro has recently announced that he is still waiting to sign a deal with New Line Cinema before starting production on The Hobbit nor The Hobbit Sequel. According to Empire Online, "I wish it was definite, but it isn't," del Toro said. "It's still in talks, there are still a lot of 'T's to cross and 'I's to dot. It's certainly not certain yet...But, as far as I'm concerned, [if it was definite] I would be packed in ten seconds."

Del Toro isn't worried about the lawsuit that was reported earlier this week between the Tolkien estate and New Line Cinema, which could lose the studio the rights to the popular novels. "I heard that, but I'm quite zen about those things," del Toro continued. "Since that news broke, I have not exchanged a single phone call with my lawyer or my manager or anyone. They talk about it and I have received some emails, but, as far as I'm concerned, until I'm on board I should not worry about it. I read about it, but there's nothing I can do about it. This week seems to be the lawsuit week in Hollywood."

New Line Cinema has not announced when they plan to start production on The Hobbit nor The Hobbit Sequel.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to theaters December 14th, 2012 and stars Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again comes to theaters December 13th, 2013 and stars Ron Perlman, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Doug Jones, Kiran Shah, Billy Connolly.

    "Chip the glasses and crack the plates!
    Blunt the knives and bend the forks!
    That's what Bilbo Baggins hates-
    Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
    Cut the cloth and tread on the fat!
    Pour the milk on the pantry floor!
    Leave the bones on the bedroom mat!
    Splash the wine on every door!
    Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl;
    Pound them up with a thumping pole;
    And when you've finished, if any are whole,
    Send them down the hall to roll!
    That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!
    So, carefully! carefully with the plates!"

    If greatly respect del Toro's cinematic views and prospectives. He has my vote any day. I think it would be great to view Tolkien's world through the eyes of a different director.

    I wonder what the name of the sequel to the hobbit will be?? The Lord of the Rings!!! Why are this people doing two movies?? Oh, yeah more money!!

    No wonder NewLine is getting sued! They are drestroying Tolkien's master piece! And for what, for more money???

    p.s. don't get me wrong, the 'Fellowship' and the 'Towers' were great! but not the 3rd one.

    If everything works out and he directs The Hobbit movie, great.
    If they don't, and he makes Dr. Strange, great.

    sorry and yes i would want del toro over raimi or any1 else. but p.j. and if pete can't do it i am not sure it should be made jus yet. i mean del too has to make up his mind and choose which movies to do. i mean if he was nearly as dedicated as p.j. he would b fightin fo new line to keep the movie rights not jus sit down. it would b kinda cool if he directed but if he does all these other movies p.j. will be done with the movies hes workin on and then he may jus diect. so del too make up your mind. i would rathe wait. sorry chaps.

    Del Toro's going to do a good job. He certainly has his plate full, what with the Hobbit, Hellboy 2, Frankenstien, and possibly Dr. Strange.
