Guillermo Del Toro Confirmed as the Director of The Hobbit!?

A new video from Youtube might in fact confirm what we've all been waiting to hear: Guillermo del Toro may very well indeed be directing both of the upcoming The Hobbit films for New Line Cinema. The One Ring.net has also had this news confirmed by an inside source.

Word on the street is that he hasn't signed a deal yet, but there is a gentleman's agreement in the works that has him 99% attached to the two back-to-back prequels. We should see an official statement once the WGA ends their strike. The One Ring's source said that Howard Shore's involvement was instrumental in this particular agreement between New Line and del Toro. This means that Shore will be back to do the score.

I've never read any of the books, but LoTR was a great trilogy, and I agree with jasonbourne that Jackson's vision is what made the movies great. However, I think we should give Del Toro a chance. Maybe his vision is right for this film, I don't know. Isn't Jackson still producing the movie?

shut up zwolf99 bitch. wat the f*ck r u sayin. lotr was great. and tolkien is the master creator. he's the godfather of fantasy. but jackson took a masterpiece and turned it into a legend. no one will direct the hobbit but peter jackson. they might as well not call it the hobbit if del toro is directing. p.j. deserves the money. have u guys seen him in person during the making of lotr. he slept less than anyone else. and worked just as hard.. dam del toro. and his supporters.. who cares if the hobbit is more happy and kiddy. jackson can still do that and change his tone a bit. i don't care if they postpone the hobbit till 20015. jus don't let some1 else direct the hobbit.

As much as I love Guillermo del Toro, if there's going to be a "Hobbit" movie, it should be directed by Peter Jackson or nobody.

the reason jackson isn't doing it is becasue he doesnt have the time to write and direct these 2 movies due to other projects he already has going

hyperion has a point, The Hobbit is very light hearted, kidish almost, lots of songs and dances, old boy Gandalf saving the dumb dwarves from death on multiple occasions. Its not as epic as LOTR, but still damn cool. I think Del toro will do just fine.

If The Hobbit were made like LOTR the tone of the film would be completely messed up. The Hobbit is very light hearted. I'm glad that Jackson is involved because he perfected this world on film, but I think it's a great choice to have a different director.

He better do a decent job if he does direct The Hobbit. I think Peter Jackson did an awesome job with LotR, and I'm hoping that Del Toro will stick to the same kinda world that Jackson discovered when he did the filming.

Sure, I can understand his filming style will be different, but there should surely be some elements to keep it similar to LotR? It would be strange if the look and people changed completely.

People, Peter is Co-Executive Producer on this project, he will see a lot more money than he ever would directing it.

Jackson's demanding too high a price to direct, that's why they looked outside of him for a helmer.

I love how movieweb always puts a question mark after everything is confirmed lol. anyway, peter jackson was not banned from directing the hobbit, thats just dumb. and i wonder if the got the joke of Howard Shore being "instrumental" in the agreement, hahaha sometimes i just kill myself!!

Trust me. I love Del Toro, but without Jackson behind the lens, dont expect Lord of the Rings people. It's almost blasphamy as Jackson was the only one that ever truly believed in making those films...now that it's a billion dollar franchise everyone see it's ingenuity. Lame that New Line wont cough up the bucks to get Jackson behind the camera again. Just as well, you've heard the actors....they won't do it if Jackson isnt helming. Oh well, like I said. Del toro is awesome, but this is another man's dream.
