"We've decided to have The Hobbit span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Dol Guldur," says Del Toro.
"We decided it would be a mistake to try to cram everything into one movie," adds Jackson. "The essential brief was to do The Hobbit, and it allows us to make The Hobbit in a little more style, if you like, of the [LOTR] trilogy."

Woo hoo, now that's some nice news. I love it when they split up movies to tell the story better.

Sounds good. I hope Del Toro dose a better job with this than what he did with Hellboy 2.

I'm disappointed that the story is being split in two, but del Toro and Jackson know what they're doing.

RAOUL DUKE YOU BRING UP A GREAT POINT. SARUMAN IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE WHITE COUNCIL & DOL GULDUR, HOPEFULLY CHRISTOPHER LEE WILL COMPLY & RETURN TO THE ROLE. MIRKWOOD DOES SEEM THE BEST CUT POINT FOR THE FIRST FILM. ONE THING THAT IS WITHOUT DOUBT, IS THAT THIS FILM WILL BE FANTASTIC.

Will be interesting to see where they split the movies ... when they're captured by the Mirkwood elves, maybe. Be interesting to have a cameo by Legolas

The White Council is only alluded to in The Hobbit. Gandalf leaves right as the party arrives to the edge of Mirkwood, saying he has business elsewhere. At the end of the book, Gandalf tells Bilbo that he went to Dol Goldur and banished the Necromancer(Sauron). It's explained a bit more fully in The Silmarillion. I dont know exactly how they are going to pull off the white council, considering Christopher Lee has already said he doesnt want to play Saruman again if he has to travel to New Zealand. Hopefully they work around him because you cant have The White Council without its leader. Cant wait to see how all this plays out. Only 2 and a half years and counting.

I can't say I'm anticipating Halo, Fallen :),
But I definitely share your enthusiasm for the Hobbit films. I'm glad they decided to span the book through two films.
Apart from reading the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings series, I have no other knowledge of Middle Earth. Where did they take the information on Gandalf, the White Council, ect.?
And for kicks, here's the two film titles:
First Film: THERE
Second Film: AND BACK AGAIN
Only joking. Can't Wait.
Also, though information on the Hobbit films is wonderful, I'd love to hear more on the Lovely Bones. Step it up, Jackson... :)

The Narrator: The Better Man
Man. I cannot wait for this. The most anticipated film next to Halo (if ever) and Y: the last man. Awesome. I think they should make the necromancer really cool looking. I thought Sauron looked kinda weird, so they should make this version of him cooler. Man. I am stoked for this.

Raoul Duke
The arrival to Mirkwood I think would make a great splitting point, with a bit of footage of Gandalf riding off to the White Council to banish the Necromancer AKA Sauron. This is great news. I was so worried that they would just throw together a bunch of crap just for the sake of bridging The Hobbit with LOTR. That would have just seemed forced and unnecessary. The Hobbit is its own entity and deserves its chance to shine. These movies just cant come quick enough.
