Marvel files for Guardians of the Galaxy trademarks
Today we have word that Marvel has filed for 11 trademarks under the title, applying the name to everything from jewlery, beverages, cosmetics, furniture, computer games, fabrics, foods, and paper goods.
These trademark applications don't give us any clues on when production may begin, but they wouldn't go through all this trouble if the movie wasn't happening. The comic book debuted in 1969 and follows a group of aliens, each the last of their own kind, who assemble on Earth to defend the planet from an imminent attack.
No screenwriter or director is attached to the project yet. Marvel Studios is currently in production on Iron Man 3, with Thor 2 and Captain America 2 coming up next. The studio still hasn't revealed which new stand-alone property will come next. Guardians of the Galaxy, The Inhumans, Ant-Man, Black Panther, S.H.I.E.L.D., Iron Fist, and Doctor Strange are the properties currently in active development at Marvel Studios.
Guardians of the Galaxy comes to theaters August 1st, 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Lee Pace. The film is directed by James Gunn.

I know nothing about Guardians of the Galaxy, so I can only hope that they turn this into a good movie!

@cheetoboy... That's hard to answer. It could be a lot of different ones but you've probably heard of none of them. But how about this for a list of possible suspects assuming they're doing what I would call Guardians V2 - Star-Lord, Major Victory, Groot, Rocket Raccoon (yep no joking), Adam Warlock, Gamora, Mantis, Cosmo, Bug, Drax the Destroyer, Jack Flag, Moondragon.
Just a wild guess that this didn't help... Sorry.

Can anyone tell me the names of the superheroes in this? I'm really not to familiar with Guardians of the Galaxy.

@armand Rock... True in some respect but when Doc Strange is the leader of the group you tend to fight things most people don't even know are there or half the time you're off in a magical dimension. The Xmen are more of a human rights statement. Don't get me wrong they're my all time favorites but even when the world knows they've been saved by the Xmen they don't like it because they're "those stinkin' muties". Spiderman is the local hero. The boy next door hero. While it does happen he's not usually the world saving guy.

"we never get credit for saving the world"...i dont read defenders but that sounds a lot like spider-man and/or x-men in a way except in their case it backfires

I like it more the more I think about it. Doing another team of "superstar heroes" is redundant. Playing up the 'we never get credit for saving the world' angle of the Defenders would be a nice counterpoint to The Avengers.

After thinking about it... if they want to do another team they're 90% of the way to doing a Defenders movie already. (original team not the weird Ultimate Universe Defenders thing they did). They're doing a Doc Strange movie, the Hulk is well established and due to leave the Avengers in their next movie, they've established the Asgardians for The Valkyrie to show up. Heck even the Silver Surfer is hanging around in movieland somewhere. They just need a good story for Doc Strange to bring them together. Yeah I know Namor was there in the beginning but I don't see him translating to movies very well. And since we always seem to need someone(s) who doesn't really have any power how about Nighthawk? But please no Hellcat.

Make mine Marvel, I'm now leaning toward Marvel than DCU since they're getting better.

Well ejk1 you can have my seat because that's going to translate to pure cheese and corn on the screen.

i hope its the original team however from previous articles one of the high up guys said it was "more starlord's team and less vance's team". I still have hope that "less" means there will be one of two of the original members
i agree they could do a LOT more with the team thats set in the future...heck that could even have its own live action tv series and im sure it would be a hit even with people who dont know about this series...imagine some of the cool episodes when you find out what happened to Thor or other characters...or how about Iron Man's technology that became the technology used by an entire race called the Starks

Which version of the Guardians are they going to do though? Yes I know the picture Movieweb threw up is the more recent team but I doubt it's been announced. I'm hoping for the original since it had so much more panache and a cool back story. Besides, no matter how you do a talking raccoon it's going to come off as pure camp.

Now that Avengers did what it needed it looks like we are going to get several more ensemble pieces. Less known but still awesome.
