Guardians of the Galaxy lands Black List writer Chris McCoy
There has been a lot of speculation regarding the exact lineup of this new superhero team, although now we know exactly who will be featured. The team members include Drax the Destroyer, a green warrior who is driven to kill Thanos, Groot, a man-tree hybrid, Star-Lord, a half-human/half-alien renegade, Rocket Raccoon, a genetically-engineered animal with a penchant for explosives, and Gamora, who was saved by Thanos but now wants to do battle with the villain. Thanos was revealed as the primary villain in the mid-credit scene of Marvel's The Avengers.
We reported a month ago that Nicole Perlman wrote the original draft of the screenplay. That report also revealed Marvel Studios will release this new adventure on August 1, 2014.
Chris McCoy's screenplays have landed on the Black List three times, although none of them have been produced yet. Get Back appeared on the list in 2007, Good Looking in 2009, and Good Kids in 2011.
Guardians of the Galaxy comes to theaters August 1st, 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Lee Pace, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan. The film is directed by James Gunn.

@thaphoenix No not C. Nolan his brother Jonathon Nolan- he was lined up at one point to helm Wonder Women but there had been numerous disputes with Warner Bros. over the whole MOS stuff- i would just think he could do something with this material- Person of Interest is his up and coming TV series and it loooks ace! :)

@mcleve02 As several people said below, I don't think it's going to be animated as it's part of Phase II. I, personally, have no idea who I would want to see in it. I'd probably like some relative unknowns, though.

@daveactor7 Considering they're using it to launch Avengers 2, I doubt it would be animated. Think a CGI-heavy cosmic story like Green Lantern (although hopefully better than that, heh).
