Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in contention to play Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy
The Dark Knight Rises star was not among the actors who signed testing deals for the part in November, which included Joel Edgerton, Jim Sturgess, Jack Huston, Lee Pace, and Eddie Redmayne. We reported last month that Jim Sturgess and Chuck star Zachary Levi were the front runners for the role.
Peter Quill is a NASA astronaut who learns that his true father is actually an alien, which leads him on a journey into outer space. With a sentient space ship, he becomes the Star-Lord, an intergalactic cop who serves as the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
James Gunn is directing from his own screenplay. It isn't known when production may begin.
Guardians of the Galaxy comes to theaters August 1st, 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Michael Rooker, Ophelia Lovibond, Lee Pace. The film is directed by James Gunn.

His name is going to be huge in just a matter of time. His name is already being thrown around now (in a good way), but I mean in the ranks of some of the best. Wonderful young star with a bright future ahead.

@bawnian-dexeus I don't think so. Ioan Gruffudd was 32 when he played Reed in FF, and JGL will be 32 this year. The age wasn't the factor, but then again Gruffudd's not a bad actor, either. Those films were plagued by lazy writing. So really, the big question is whether Fox will get capable writers or not.

Other than Edgerton, this is the best name I've heard for the role. There are certainly better characters they could give Levitt, but I'd just be excited to see him make his way into the MCU. They're probably looking for a bigger name to headline GotG because it's a lesser known property, and Levitt is a huge star right now after Inception, TDKR, and Looper.

I say no, not because I don't think JGL couldn't pull it off, or wouldn't want to do the role. I just feel that someone of his caliber should be in line for a more important role in the Marvel U. I mean, wouldn't he be better as DD, as the star of his own franchise, or as Reed Richards if he was going to be part of an ensemble (and yeah, I know Fox has the FF rights, but if they want people to take the reboot seriously, they should find serious actors).
