Green Lantern's Hal Jordan to Wear a CG Suit

The choice of CG will play into both the look and the theme of the film
The choice of CG will play into both the look and the theme of the film
/Film is reporting that in DC Comics' and Warner Bros. production of the Green Lantern (starring Ryan Reynolds) the suit the character wears is going to be almost entirely CG.

They are citing independent sources saying that Reynolds is utilizing "a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights" to make this happen.

goes on to cite the films costume designer Ngila Dickson (Academy Award winner for The Lord Of The Rings: The Return of The King) as being solid proof that this should work.

Ngila was tasked with trying to find a way to do something that stands apart from all of the other superheroes spandex suit designs we've seen in the past.

They also went on to say that the medium of CG is actually quite suited to the look of the Green Lantern's costume:

The Green Lantern suit is something that should look alien - it needs to seem other worldly. It encompasses any creature that wears the ring, and Hal Jordan is the first human to ever wear the suit. This was a chance for Dickson to do something different. You also have to consider that Hal changes into the suit multiple times in mid scene, and the cg also allows him to do this.

Lastly, it seems that the look of the the suit will keep in line with the actual story being told in the film:

I've heard that when the cg is complete, the suit will look like a manifestation of his power.

Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

There are only so many ways that it can look different and still be on a human.

What? Is there going to be like, a third sleeve that jutts out his back and just limply hangs there?

    THAT'S NOT MY GREEN LANTERN!!!

It makes sense. I just hope like in Tron Legacy they use more than just a grey suit to give an idea of what it will be like.

Sounds interesting. It works for Robert Downie Jr.

I actually like this idea. This Davy Jones in The Pirates movies. It could look very good and way better than a rubber suit. Just as long as they don't give him nipple marks like poor old Bats.

maybe its the only way they can do it without a cheesy leather looking suit like in daredevil

Just build him a costume for crying out loud. I don't mind CGI but this is just gay. What next just having Ryan's voice as they use CGI for a character just like on any video game.
employer; Sorry Ryan we won't need to see you any more we just need your voice. Get fat for all we care.
Ryan: I rather keep my figure and mouth off

  13. Twisted Smile (The Untold Smile)

There is a part of me that doesn't like that they are doing this and then there is another part that understands why they are going this route. With all the abilities that Green Lantern has with the ring and the fact that a majority of the time when he is drawn in the comics he has a green glow around him, I can see why they would lean on cgi. I still would like to see a practical costume though.

I dont think this is a good idea to make the suit cg. They should have went with an actual suit. If the cg suit doesn't look realistic than its going to look bad.

Its a big risk. I would have been perfectly happy with a regular suit, but seeing as how she knows what she's doing (LOTR) I say go for it.

As long as it looks realistic, there should be no problems. But if the suit looks horrible, then it could inflict great damage to the franchise.
