Green Lantern's marketing campaign delayed by 3D visual effects work
Warner Bros. has also been apprehensive about launching their second trailer, as the first teaser was poorly received by the filmgoing public at large. More specifically, by that all-important 18-35 demographic that most frequents comic book movies. Warner Bros. has all of its hopes pinned on Green Lantern becoming their next tentpole franchise after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 brings that series to a close this summer.
The superhero adventure, shot for close to $200 million, is rushing to be completed by its set-in-stone June 17th release date. But Green Lantern's intricate 3D visual effects, which has about 2/3's of the movie taking place in space with detailed alien life forms providing most of the character work, are taking longer than anyone had anticipated at the forefront of production.
While Warner Bros. is previewing certain "elements" of Green Lantern at both CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, and at WonderCon in San Francisco, we won't see the full trailer until May 6th, when it will arrive in theaters attached to prints of Thor.
Warner Bros. worldwide Marketing president Sue Kroll has acknowledged that fans awaiting the first teaser were severely disappointed at what they eventually saw unspool. She is adamant that this won't happen again.
"Part of the reason the response to the first trailer was lukewarm was that the big-scale sequences weren't ready to show, and we suffered for it. We can't afford to do that again."
Warner Bros. remains optimistic that the finished movie will be both a critical and financial success.
Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.
Thor was released May 6th, 2011 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgård, Kat Dennings, Clark Gregg, Idris Elba. The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh.

@dan1..Though the movie wasnt recieved well by many and he was in a gorilla costume the whole time, him and his voice were great in the Planet of the Apes remake

"Part of the reason the response to the first trailer was lukewarm was that the big-scale sequences weren't ready to show" No, that wasn't my problem with it. I actually thought the visuals were very well done in the trailer. I just think the film looks like sh*t altogether. It looks just too "kiddie". there is nothing wrong with being kiddie, it's just that it seems on the level of the fantastic four films. that level of lame kiddie bullsh*t.

@jayaottley Well put but for a film that , at the time, hadn't even been edited fully yet, I don;t think it should be judged.

@thedude-abides I concur with that statement, GL began to suck beyond epic proportions from the time that Reynolds got the role over Cooper.
Also to the simple factor that the majority of today's young auidence know the John Stewart Green Lantern while proper fans of GL know that Hal Jordan was the first GL.
Last let's not proceed to let it skip our mind that this film will depend on a young generation, since they're the mainstream target auidence as well as GL fans.
I'm pretty sure you can see the dilemna there :)

@SkullofRed I don't know about u, but "Massive visual and special effects work needed to finish the movie" that is preventing Warners from releasing a 2nd trailer is what I call an overhaul.
I respect your opinion, and u obviously have inside knowledge of the story. But in my objective opinion, just going purely off what I saw in the first trailer, I think this will suck beyond epic proportion.

@SkullofRed Exactly. Especially if you already have a trilogy confirmed and have already spent 200 million, it would be wise to make this product of the highest quality.

@thedude-abides @daveactor7 I'm telling you guys. I know the full story for this film. It will be great. Plus, the work on the effects they're doing isn't a overhaul. The effects were never finished in the first place. There just taking there time to make sure the effects are perfects for guys like you who say the movie will fail and be the worst movie of 2011.

I don't mean to piss anybody off, but this is going to be one of the worst movies of the year hands down. This overhaul to the special effects work is just an early warning sign of what kind of problems the film has not just on a technical level, but with the product as a whole. Not a good sign this close to the release date.

@bud2fresh Actually, I recently read a description/summary of the full story for this film recently, confirmed by some friends who've reviewed the script to be real, and it's great. They also set up a future film perfectly by (Spoiler Alert) having the Guardians of the Universe and the Lanterns create a Yellow Power Ring for Sinestro to use against Parallax. Also there's a fantastic conclusion to the film as well.

@skull I am glad most of it will take place in space that way all the special effects won't look out of place and i do want this film to do well because i like anybody who could stand toe to toe with The Man of Steel but i just feel like the story wont be as strong as it should be ,too much C.G.I. but i got my fingers crossed. And i have had to change my password like 15 times on several occassions trying to login so don't feel bad lol

hey, the first trailer had terrible CGI for the green suit so hopefully y the time the movie is released, and with all the super extra work being put in, I have faith the movie will be, as a "critical and financial success."
