Green Lantern Gets Geoffrey Rush as Voice of Tomar-Re

Geoffrey Rush set to Voice Tomar-Re
Geoffrey Rush set to Voice Tomar-Re
The Green Lantern hype train is firmly back on track this week, and the first big bit of news reveals who will voice some of the many CGI creatures in this DC Comics adaptation.

Geoffrey Rush is confirmed as Tomar-Re, a gilled, goldfish-headed creature from the planet of Xudar. Tomar-Re is a scientist who works alongside Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) as an intergalactic member of the Green Lantern Corp.

Michael Clarke Duncan is rumored to be playing the gentle, yet frightening giant Kilowag. At this time, he is a contender for the voice role, but the studio has yet to make a final decision on the actor. More casting announcements are expected soon. Finalization of visual and 3D effects? That may take awhile.

Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

@comicbookfan Yeah Michael Clark Duncan as Kilowog is something thats been wanted for a while within the comic book community for a while. It's great to see it may actually happen. We will have to take with a grain of salt as some sites reported last week that someone else already had the role.

@thedude-abides I know most are done and are releasing promotional stuff but for a film this scale, it's understandable. For a film like Green Lantern, Post-production is definitely going to be challenge and take a while. This is definitely going to be the case for sequels should they take place entirely in space. It might be smart though if they push the release back to mid-July. They'll have more time for promotional stuff and they'll have more time to finish post-production work.

    Typo: Corps, not Corp.

@insertusernamehere I agree. Duncan is the perfect voice for Kilowog.

@jptheredskull Yeah, that makes sense. My main concern is just the fact that it's so late in production. Most films are wrapped and ready to go by this point.

@thedude-abides They do it because its easier to do the visuals first with vocals later. It easier to synch a voice actors performance to the Animation/visuals than it is to synch the animation/visuals to the performance. They were smart to do it this way, plus I'm sure alot of the vocal work has probably been done anyways. especially for characters with minimal screentime. Tomar-Re and Kilowog have alot of screentime in this movie so its understandable they want to get it right. It's saddening though that it's late into the production. I hope the release isn't pushed back.

This is baffling to me. They're just now casting actors to do the voice overs? I know it doesn't take much time in the scheme of things, but u would think with 3 months left before the film's release, that the film would actually be finished. I'm surprised more people aren't concerned about this. Not a good sign.

I wonder if he'll go with something simple for his voice acting, or something like Capt. Barbossa..." You best start believing in comic book movies Mr.Rush, Your in one " :]

I think this is a great pick, I'm just concerned that they are still deciding on voice actors with less than three months to go. I know, it won't take that long, but still it would have been nice to get all these little things out of the way early so they could fix problem areas more efficiently.
