Martin Campbell will not direct Green Lantern 2 for Warner Bros.
Here's an excerpt from a recent magazine article which indicates director Martin Campbell won't return to direct Green Lantern 2.
"Inevitably, chat turns to the possibility of follow-ups. Campbell admits it will be nice to have all the backstory and complicated rules of the character already taken care of. 'This film has become the instruction manual if they do any further ones. It's what we call pipe laying,' he says. Not that he has plans to return for a sequel - like Bond, he loves 'em and leaves 'em."
Martin Campbell has employed this strategy before, on two separate occasions involving James Bond movies. He directed the 1995 Bond movie Goldeneye, although he did not direct any of the other Bond movies which starred Pierce Brosnan. In 2006, he helped reinvent the James Bond franchise again with Casino Royale, but he did not direct the follow-up, Quantum of Solace.
We reported last August that screenwriter Michael Goldenberg was hired to write the Green Lantern 2 screenplay. As of now, it is unclear who will direct the sequel.
Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.
Green Lantern 2 is in development and stars Ryan Reynolds.

@thebd That is exactly what i was thinking, weird picture. TOO weird.
@dan1 If GL is wildly successfull think of the money OTHER producers will offer him to get their movies made. I really dont expect him to come back for a sequel. It would be nice if he does tho.
On a side note Casino Royale and Goldeneye are 2 of my all time fav 007 movies.

@thebd I guess time will tell. Which is a matter of weeks now, thankfully.
And yeah, that's one bizarre picture of Reynolds....

@dan1 yeha but Casino Royale and Golden Eye were both successful and he didn't come back for those. throwing this out there, but we don't even know for sure that Green Lantern is any good, to me it could still go either way based on trailers and what not. maybe we'll want a different director.
and ok just a side thought but what is there a shortage of pictures of Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern that they had to make this weird ass one?

Let's settle down, folks. If Green Lantern is wildly successful (here's hoping), obviously Warner is gonna approach Campbell and offer him a good deal of money to stick around and do the next one. Money talks.

Ya know, this kinda ticks me off. If the movie's good, then he should stay on as director to see the story through. There's a large mythology to build, and he'd have only scratched the surface of it with the first film.

Yeah, he let some other dude ruin Quantum of Solace... a damn shame that was. Now I wanna see Casino Royale again!

Don't forget that Martin Campbell direct "The Mask of Zorro" (1998) and also, the sequel "The Legend of Zorro" (2005).
Campbell did a very fine job with the well written script of "Casino Royale" (2006). I really enjoy that film. I can't say the same about "Quantum of Solace" (2008) directed by Marc Foster and, once again, written by Paul Haggis, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

Campbell is a great director, the man resurrected the Bond franchise TWICE,so if it leaves GL it talks more about him than the film itself.Knowing his work is highly unlikely that he made a sloppy film.
