Geoff Johns remains hopeful for Green Lantern 2
The Green Lantern Blu-ray and Green Lantern DVD were released this past Friday, just in time for NYCC 2011. It was there that DC Entertainment's Creative Chief Geoff Johns revealed that a sequel could still happen, and that he remains hopeful that it will get made sometime in the neat future.
This is what he had to say about Green Lantern 2.
"There is the hope that we will eventually see (Green Lantern 2). I hope that the character gets another film, and it will be live-action again - I guarantee."
Geoff Johns hopes that the recent home video release, and the upcoming animated series, will help push toward a sequel to Green Lantern.
"There was a lot of really good stuff in the movie. With the new animated series, Green Lantern is only going to get bigger."
Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

Ok, just watched it on bluray, and I have to say, when you know what to expect, it is alot better. I would've preferred the idea of the manhunter storyline, blending in with the rest of the corps, touching on Carol and Hal's love story, then parallax in 2nd movie, him becoming more prominent then, but I'm more excited for a second one now.

@k-man reportedly they spent about $100 million marketing the movie.

Hopefully the second movie will not have that problem. Hopefully it will have more seriousness. Maybe they were holding off on that until the second movie anyways.

@tomp1210 I think That 70's Show has compounded his more serious side of acting. I know Deadpool's a comic relief hero but he does take hings serious from time to time.

@ROFLitschristian Yeh, but you can't really blame him, that movie was trashed - crazy jazz and emo parades. I just think his voice in particular would be good, and in my opinion he looks like the kind of person who could be under the mask.

@aoshi - True...... and according to some articles I've read the $200 million doesn't even account for the majority of the promotional budget, which was enormous.....therefore, this film actually lost money. Talk about a disaster from a financial point of view.

Finally watched tonight and was pleased I went in with no expectations other than to watch a movie and I thought it was good needed a little more action but overall was good. I like Ryan in most movies he plays in. I just don't like the fact of the same people playing several heroes like The Torch and Captain America Chris Evans he shouldn't have played Captain America but maybe after I watch it I'll think different. I hated the Idea of Robert Downey playing Tony Stark I almost didn't want to watch it but he was awesome. Didn't read a lot about Green Lantern but I like Ryan as him. My problem with same actor diff. Heroes is what if you make a Team up then what Capt. A and Torch were both Avengers when that comes out does that mean one won't be in it or does he play both parts can't go for that. For the same reason a tiny mask or pair of glasses doesn't hide your secret identity we aint stupid we would know. Just like she said "Just because the mask hides your cheekbones doesn't mean I don't know who you are."

Geoff Johns, we were hopeful for the Green Lantern after your re-imagining of Hal Jordan... until you said 'yes' to The New 52 and now all your hard work was in vein! So boo hoo IMO.

@geof36 As well as it will be to me. The only thing Green Lantern I was involved with was Justice League, and I didn't even really follow that! :)

.......god I hope this sequel is better than the steaming POS the first one was. IT was too kid friendly, and not enough seriousness that is Green Lantern :(

@ROFLitschristian I think it depends on how much you care about the comics and how it matches up with that. I've never read anything that has to do with Green Lantern, so it was new to me. So low expectations will definitely help.

@tomp1210 I don't like Keanu as Hal nor Topher as Deadpool. Reynolds as Flash might work, at least for the Wally West Flash.

@geof36 I've heard that if I watch Green Lantern with low expectations I'll enjoy it.

@aoshi Yeh, If I had my way, I would've made Keanu the GL, Topher as Deadpool, and Reynolds as Flash. And I would've replaced Blake with pretty much anyone, maybe Rachel McAdams, because she and Keanu have acted together in a romance, but I haven't seen it.
just ideas.

@k-man it's actually worse. The studios had to shoulder the $200 million budget, but the $219 million gross doesn't go all to the studios. About half of it goes to movie theaters, so in essence Green Lantern was VERY unprofitable.

@tomp1210 Reynold's Deadpool was horrible. The funny thing is how Deadpool is supposed to be this funny guy while Hal Jordan is more serious, and he played those roles in reverse. Not his fault, though.

The first movie wasn't the disaster I thought it would be. It wasn't good, mind you, but what hurt it most was the inflated budget. Reminded me of Waterworld, another forgettable movie that wasn't specially bad, but not as horrible as the critics put it.
They have to fix a lot of things, but everything's fixable and I'm ok with the same cast returning. Sinestro in particular was very good.

@moviegeek Couldn't have said it better myself. I think I'm gonna review the blu-ray of the first one sometime this week. Look out for it.

@doctorpoop Also did you notice how you did not spell "BUT" right? How gnarly! If you people can't understand its not English class read the damn article and either like it for what it says or go teach a class but for god sake know that you don't make mistakes before you correct someone else! If someones English is so bad you can't get the concept of the article then complain but use the frigging spell check built into this thing before you submit your grammar complaint/corrections. Don't ASSume that your perfect and hit submit look for the little red lines under your words telling you HEY you spelled that wrong. Other wise enjoy or not the article. That's 2 today anyone else want to spell miss check again. And Dfella you jus wrong fer all dat! By the way as I look back over my words I see 4 little red lines that I intend to leave on purpose should be 5 but for some reason FER gets past the spell check, can you find them? By the way Tyler nonEnglish change your name you don't need that just makes you look bad!

@ROFLitschristian It might just be me, but I think Reynolds should get focussed up on his green lantern, and leave deadpool behind. Maybe Topher Grace or someone would be good in that role instead?

@ROFLitschristian I actually just watched this for the first time last night and I really liked it. So as much as I want the Deadpool movie to happen, a Green Lantern 2 would also be amazing. It's a win-win, really:p

Blake destroyed every scene she was in, and i really expected more from an actor like Ryan Reynolds, who was excellent in Buried.

@michaelormick Yeah man you tell him his spelling is atrocious WTFE your retarded! Before you go criticizing someones spelling you should make sure you "DEFINITELY" know how to spell! I'm sure you can blame it on the fact that your spell check was broken but wait there's one built into this site!!! Just in case you can't figure it out the word you misspelled is in caps above. Besides he didn't misspell a word it was just the wrong word and spell check wouldn't have caught it because neat is a word, it just should have been "near". Get a life and stop hating.
