Robert Downey Jr. may be leaving Gravity
It was reported earlier this month that Sandra Bullock was in talks for the lead role. Deadline now indicates that Bullock is "locked in" for this role. The screenplay heavily revolves around Bullock's character, an astronaut who is trapped in deep space when an asteroid field takes out her space station. Robert Downey Jr. would have played a smaller supporting role, as the only other surviving astronaut.
Warner Bros. has denied that Robert Downey Jr. is leaving the project, saying that the scheduling issues are expected to be resolved. Downey was originally set to shoot Gravity before Sherlock Holmes 2 began filming. Then it was reported that he would take a break in the middle of shooting Sherlock Holmes 2 to film his role in Gravity. Now neither scenario seems plausible, with Sherlock Holmes 2 already well into production.
Gravity comes to theaters November 21st, 2012 and stars Sandra Bullock, George Clooney. The film is directed by Alfonso CuarĂ³n.

and now i have just checked Tess Gerritson's blog and guess what...it seems that this movie has nothing to do with her book aside from the title and the fact that it revolves around a lone female astronaut trying to get home. too bad. Gerritson's novel would have made a fantasic movie.

Gravity was one awesome novel and it not only revolves around being trapped in space but also a mutated Archeon that devours whole bodies from the inside. I love this book and you know how that always turns out when you see the movie its based on.

@ejk1 usually astounds me with his knowledge of comic book lore. You usually astound me with your grandpa-age cornball humor, so.... you do the math :D

I'd rather this "star" Portman, now with Mr. Jr. gone, I can't say this holds "weight" anymore.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Natalie or Scarlett seemed much better in the role. I pray to god Bullock doesn't get it. She's not bad, but she's not fantastic either. As for Downey possibly leaving, they better find a way to keep him on board. Cuaron is a creative director so I look forward to this, however with less interest as I did last month

Gravity wont be great not only due to the acting. It'll be great because Alfonso Cuaron is directing it. (Harry Potter 3, Children of men) superb director

Gravity can survive without Downey, he has so many irons in the fire at this point, there should be plenty of scheduling conflicts in his future!

But good news, people. Saw 8, Transformers 4, PA 3 will be on track with no problems (minus people losing limbs on the T4 set, oh that silly Bay).

I must say id rather see Angelina Jolie in the lead role instead of Bullock, but still looking forward to this film none the less. I also hope Robert Downey Jr. will be able to star in this, but if it causes problems for Sherlock Homes 2 production then screw it, cause Sherlock Holmes comes first in my book.
