Gore Verbinski's Bioshock Put on Hold
The film was gearing up to shoot in Los Angeles soon, but now Verbinski and Universal are looking at alternatives, like shooting in London, as a way to bring down the costs of the high profile project. Verbinski stated, "We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit. We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern."
Both Verbinski and Universal are intent on making Bioshock a reality. Verbinski decided not to take on the fourth film in the lucrative Pirates of the Caribbean franchise so that he could make this film instead.
Bioshock is in development and stars Wentworth Miller, Braden Lynch. The film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

Kyle, I was the same way the first time I played it, I was like "meh it's okay" wasn't a big fan of hacking stuff (mainly cause I suck at that kind of stuff game wise so it was difficult for me). Then I rented it almost 6 months later or around that time frame when I saw that it got game of the year. I was like "hmm maybe I should give it another shot" so I did, I played it til I beat it of course. I will say, the story rocks. If you can hold out til the end, it has one of the best endings ever in a game, and not like that's saying A LOT lol but I think because that was such a huge factor to it's hype and popularity, it won that award. The setting itself is pretty badass even just for eye candy purposes. In the upcoming sequel, instead of you being a regular joe with powers from this crazy underwater city's idealists, you're the first version of a Big Daddy, and you even get to go out into the ocean in some parts (unlike the first game when you could only look outside and see whales, fish and the occasional Big Daddy stomping by). Pretty f*cking rad if you ask me lol. Can you imagine tagging one of these crazies in the face with that big ass drill for your arm lol. Sweetness!

BioShock was a great game. The graphics where good, the controls where great, and the story was amazing. Not to mention that it won game of the year. So, if you say it sucks, you have either never played it, or you just have a terrible taste in games.

kyle, if you haven't noticed, pretty much any first person shooter ever is repetitive because, um...all you do is shoot stuff. It's the circ*mstances in which you're "shooting stuff" that counts, and Bioshock is much more than JUST a first-person shooter. If you didn't get the story while playing it, maybe you should do some research and you'll find that it delivers some moral themes along with Watchmen.
Bioshock is the intellectual's game. Not saying you're stupid, but if all you're looking for in a game is shoot 'em up, blow sh*t up bull, avoid Bioshock.

Meh Game sucked anyway, so damn repeaditive walk around clunk some zombieish things in the head with a pipe, inject some sh*t in your hand because a voice on a P.A system tells you to? WTF is that. Fincher is good but i doubt he'll ever do a video game adaptation they almost always fail the only one i enjoyed was Silent Hill

Damn, I wish they would have put David Fincher on this...
TCCOBB, while I haven't seen it, showed he can handle mind blowing visuals topped with a dramatic story. Se7en showed he has the ability to direct a psychological thriller, making us think about our own lives, and deliver a pretty evil villain along with it. Even Alien 3, with it's faults, showed he can handle the sci-fi horror genre...damn, he would have been perfect...

Bioshock, Halo, and Gears of War. Those are the three games that deserve to be turned into movies.
But no...we get Uwe Boll movies instead.

Uhhh...no duh the movie was gonna be pricey! Anyone who is familiar with the story/setting/game, etc. knows what is being asked to have that game put on celluloid! I would love to see it, but I fear it is gonna languish in pre-production limbo for quite a while. Movie studios need to unpucker their buttholes more often and allow visions to be seen!

Great game. But will it make a decent movie? I HIGHLY doubt it.

I loved the game, just hope the movie can hold up tp its awesomeness.
We need a good video game adaptation.

This is smart, because it is a movie based on a game and those rarely make any money. But I still have major faith in Verbinski for just about any big movie.
I also have this idea of him directing a Neverending Story remake. That would be epic.
Anyway, I think it is a good idea to do BioShock before Pirates 4.

I smell this going the same direction as the Halo film...Why because they don't want to admit that Verbrinski dropped it, so lay around some news and then drop the bombshell.
Verbrinski dropped this ages ago. He stated so himself in an game mag interview.

Huge fan of the game, all that jazz...I really think the movie should be a prequel to the game since the game sequel has been confirmed as just that...a sequel, taking place 10 years after the first game. Besides, there's a tremendous amount of backstory to tell that would make for a way better movie, even Oscar worthy in the right hands. Sadly, I don't think Verbinski are those hands. They should get David Fincher on the case, but I doubt that will happen. Let's just hope that Verbinski giving up on Pirates allows him to take this seriously

I have no reasoning for this, but I have this strange feeling that this movie will be half-assed. Videogame adaptations are not good. Some of them are mildly entertaining at times, but for the most part they fail. It was a really cool game too, so it kinda sucks.
