The storyline would find the old Ghostbusters handing over the reigns to the new Ghostbusters (aka: Team Apatow). Will this film ever see the light of day? Someone certainly needs to ask Apatow next time they see him.
UPDATE (9/4/08 5:00 PM PST) Variety has just revealed the two screenwriters set to write Ghostbusters 3 are The Office executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky.
The article also mentions that this sequel will reunite all four of the original Ghostbusters: Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson.
Eisenberg and Stupnitsky recently wrote Year One, which Ramis directed and could possibly have been the impetus behind a third film being made.

i had heard at one point that jack black was either asked to participate or aykroyd had suggested him, and what about the video game? didnt aykroyd say THAT was the sequel, because he could not get a movie going.
Also i agree that bill murray, has always stated negatively that he would not be in another gb film, and said the only way he would return is if he was killed off and was a ghost, that was years ago, but i think murray is too busy with garfield voice overs, golfing, and indie films to be involved with this.

Agreed that the Ghostbusters themselves would look silly being so old. Seth Rogan is probably the worst choice on being a Ghostbuster. There are funnier people than him. Hands down. I don't want the Ghostbusters to be stupid and dumbed down, "smoking weed/i-sound-like-a-goon-when-i-laugh" Rogen. He has stupid written all over him. I liked his other movies because his character fit those plotlines. That won't fly in Ghostbusters.

HA! I knew it...Ghostbusters3 is heading for production.
With all of the 80's pop cultural strip mining, and GB3 having alot of potential, it was a matter of time. Like I said before in the Forums/Rumors section earliar this year:
"I think a Ghostbusters 3 is an inevitability...I hope that there is a confluence of events to make it a theatrical release and not a straight to dvd release.
The trend of remaking 80's movies purports that it will happen, fingers crossed."

FYI the game "Ghostbusters" is supposed release date is in limbo right now because I think they want it to be released during the 25th anniversary of '09 (the original film). Kinda stupid but that's how marketing goes lol.
