Ghostbusters 3 Moves Forward with New Writing Staff

Ghostbusters 3 gets new writing staff
The ever-evolving saga of bringing Ghostbusters 3 to the big screen will surely turn out to be more interesting than the film itself could ever hope to be at this point. The drama continues this week, as co-creator and star of the franchise Dan Aykroyd reveals he has hired an all-new writing staff to rework the screenplay.

Bill Murray has been the real hold up on the project, but we may just have him to thank in the long run if Ghostbusters 3 turns out to be any good. He's long refused to commit to the sequel due to the quality of the script, but in early June, he admitted to David Letterman that he'd be game if they could just nail down a decent story. At that time, he confirmed a rewrite was being done.

Now, Dan Aykroyd is backing up that claim.

"[We have a] new writing staff working on it now. It's got to be perfect. That's the whole thing. There's no point in doing it unless it's perfect."

Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who co-wrote the comedy misfires Year One and Bad Teacher, were behind the latest drafts that had Bill Murray reportedly force feeding his shredder. They are no longer with the project.

Will we ever see Ghostbusters 3? Not if the end of the world gets here first, as planned, in December of this year. We bet money that the end of the world is going to be more fun to watch.

Ghostbusters 3 is in development and stars Sigourney Weaver, Anna Faris, Eliza Dushku, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson. The film is directed by Ivan Reitman.

    @titanictom -- Saying that "you no longer care" is a step, and it's a way of saying "I'm no longer going to comment on these articles". It's just a notification, don't take it so seriously.

    @Michael-Kolesik I have the faith brother! I...have...the.....

    But if I remeber corectly the last script was supposed to be great but Murray did not like it. They dumped those writers and hired all new ones. It sounds like they are catering to what Murray's idea of great is. This could be good or bad. Good because if its great in his eyes he will be back. Bad because....well...he hasnt been quite the comedian of old (a comedian yes, but not of the SNL ilk). I have mixed feelings about it all but one thing is for certain. IMO it will be so sad to see some of my childhood heros tired and out and old and out of breath from those damn proton packs.

    There will inevitably be the "I'm too old for this work" jokes like that last Indiana Jones thing and we all know how that turned out.

    Dan, Harold and Rick wrote the first
    Dan and Harold wrote the second
    I personally think that Dan, Harold and Rick should write the last

    See with the second one Rick isn't mentioned, I personal think he should have written it as well.

    @skywise Don't give up. Ghostbusters is LITERALLY my no. 1 favorite movie of all time. All this back-and-forth BS about if they'll do it or not has been killing me. But if we have faith...

    @ejk1 Sweet Joker avatar.

    @bawnian-dexeus At this point, while f*ck a full on reboot, they should settle for not being able to get everyone back, and just run with a story that involves a newer generation, have it mostly focused on them. Or just F*ck the project altogether. Might save more face doing that.

    Oh god, Dan hired the writers of "Year One" and "Bad Teacher" and wondered why Bill didn't care for it? I can't imagine his new staff can be any worse.
