'Ghost Rider' Sequel Is on Its Way!

Nic Cage will be returning in the adaptation of the Marvel Comics horror-based hero.

Superhero films are hot right now, and with his appearances in both Ghost Rider and Kick-Ass, it's well known that Nic Cage likes superhero films, so it should come as no surprise that Cage has signed on to make a sequel to Ghost Rider. The news comes our way via Bloody Disgusting that Columbia is hunting for writers for the sequel and that Cage is attached to return.

The ending of the original Ghost Rider has Cage's Johnny Blaze riding away from his one true love to continue using his "curse" to fight off the minions of Mephisto and his son Blackheart, so the door was always open for a sequel. With the success of superhero movies during Summer 2008, it only seems reasonable for Columbia to try to tap in to that.

Ghost Rider tells the story of Johnny Blaze, a stunt rider who sold his soul to the devil to try to save the life of his father. Bonded to a demonic "ghost rider", Blaze is forced to become the devil's bounty hunter. In the original film, Ghost Rider takes on Blackheart, the son of the devil, in his quest for ultimate power.

At this time, other than Nic Cage, it is unknown who would star in Ghost Rider 2, or who will direct.

Ghost Rider was released February 16th, 2007 and stars Matt Long, Raquel Alessi, Brett Cullen, Peter Fonda, Nicolas Cage, Donal Logue, Tony Ghosthawk, Hugh Sexton. The film is directed by Mark Steven Johnson.

Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance was released February 17th, 2012 and stars Nicolas Cage, Violante Placido, CiarĂ¡n Hinds, Idris Elba, Johnny Whitworth, Fergus Riordan, Spencer Wilding, Sorin Tofan. The film is directed by Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor.

Peter Jackson, now there's a director. I love The Frighteners.

You're absolutely right killerman, it's a silly dream that will probably only ever be a dream. But if you pair up Peter Jackson and God of War, then you got one hell of a movie.

wonder if they are going to go thru with the whole Europe idea.

Lol, no offense, Mage, but i don't think a video game adaptation will ever be Oscar worthy, if they continue to get these bad directors.

All I know is, it's time for another ANTI-hero movie: GOD OF WAR, the first successful video game adaptation in a long time. An epic and Oscar-worthy film that reminisces of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

I have to admit, Ghost Rider as a character and his background make for an interesting concept. However, the reason the first film was so poor was because it was executed poorly. Films live or die on their actors. CASTING! CASTING! CASTING! Casting is everything.

Ghost Rider is probably one of the best looking Marvel characters. And I loved the opening sequence for the film, I loved the end song, I loved the Penance Stare sequence, and I loved the Western feel to the film (since it felt like something out of a Tarantino/Rodriguez movie), and that's about all I liked. Truth is, Tarantino and Rodriguez would be perfect for directing this movie. They are no strangers to the comic book genre.

I know I said the concept for the character and his background is amazing, and I know that the whole idea of selling your soul to the devil is not anything new. In fact it's ancient. But the very idea that he becomes the devil's bounty hunter is as the kids say, "SIIIIIIIIIKKKKK." I mean, the flaming skull, the motorcycle, the leather jacket with spikes, the chain, enough; Ghost Rider is very cool for a hothead.

Sad part is, Nic Cage is obsessed with comics, and their film counterparts, and he's tried out to play the starring role in almost every film adaptation we have seen come to the screen including Superman. Nic Cage was great in Lord of War, and hell, I even enjoyed National Treasure, but he's not right for the role. I'm all down with your naming your son Kal-El, but grow up, you can't win them all, especially Ghost Rider.

I don't know what i hated worse. This movie or Nic Cage's fake hair piece.

Why's everyone getting down on Daredevil reboot? I mean, it would be good to be recast, and redirected, because I still want to see Marvel Civil War before I leave this place.

Oh, and ghost rider should have a sequel, but they should seriously get a better bad guy, and story line. Thanks.

I liked the first. but not enough for me to wait for a sequel. Like only liking. So I guess I wasn't expecting no sequels. but if they are coming up with one. I guess it's ok. I mean i liked the first and thought it was entertaining. So ok Bring it ON. LOL

I think this would be a perfect arena in which to do a team up with Daredevil. I personally didn't mind either movie, but Affleck may be too old and unpopular as that character to be what the movie needs.

Ok, as a fan of Cage and Ghost rider, I enjoyed the first movie. I did not, in any way, enjoy the portrayal of Blackheart or his demons. I found them to be too...oh I don't know...f*cking retarded. I mean come on. They need to make the bad guys look like a threat, and not the cast offs from a teenage do-it-yourself haunted house for kids.

I understand source material but as everyone well knows hollywood isn't so into source material. They just look to make a buck. Revamp this, reboot that, remake everything and if it doesn't do well enough, we'll do it again. Enough is enough. A sequel is what's needed in this case to right the wrongs of the first movie. Nic Cage did a good job, the story was just a bit weak.

Nicholas Cage can only take this movie so far. Great actor, but I agree with most of you revamp it a bit and make it more appealing to people past their tween years.

The people who think we're "cage haters" and "don't care what anyone else thinks" have to take into consideration that their IS source material that these movies are adapted from

I HATED the first one. It's the second worst Marvel movie I've seen (the first being Elektra). Though I blame the director for it sucking so much, the fight scenes were tedious and had some very by-the-book origin story. If they change him I'll watch this one happily. Nic was cool, nonetheless...

The first film was okay but Nick Cage I found was too old for the part. In any film of his he acts the same, Ghost Rider should have been rated R for many reasons. Swearing and some awesome fighting, instead of all the things that had gone wrong.
With amount of proper care, it could have been bigger and badder than Spiderman. It's suspose to be dark just like Blade, but it needs the over all villian of what Ghost Rider is.
Hell is breaking loose on that world and I dare say that it would have been better with a better story line and a good plotline as well. It mostly falls onto the directors shoulders and you can tell.
I'm sorry I have to say this but Nick Cage needs to go and focus on other films. As of his alter ego, nuth said.

I only watched it because of Eva Mendez....I was hoping she was topless....other than that just another typical Nic Cage movie where he yells at least once. I dare you to find me a Nic Cage movie where he does not yell at least once....better yet how about a John Travolta movie where he does not dance at least once...

the first one wasnt that good. but only because the overall acting was so so terrible. esp the bad guy. whoever that was. and the FX need a lot of improvement.

  28. T.Clark

The first was good for entertainment purposes and nothing more. A Ghost Rider movie needs to be rated R, like Blade. Comrade's right, they need a reboot like Hulk.

"With the success of superhero movies during Summer 2008, it only seems reasonable for Columbia to try to tap in to that." Yeah, but those movies were actually good

I thought Cage was fine in the first one, and the FX were passable. I'd also like to see a little more care taken with the film, just in terms of overall polish, but I don't think the first one was bad at all, and I'm excited about this one.
