George Lucas reveals he 'doesn't have much to do' on Star Wars: Episode VII
When Disney announced that Star Wars: Episode VII is in development, as part of its $4 billion acquisition of LucasFilm, many wondered how big a role franchise creator George Lucas will have in this highly-anticipated sequel. The man himself recently spoke about his "consultant" role on the follow-up, revealing he isn't too involved with the film.

"[If the filmmakers ask],'Who's this guy?' I can tell them. I mean, they have a hundred encyclopedias and things, but I actually know a lot. I can say, 'This is this and this is that.' Basically I'm not - I don't really have much to do."

It isn't known how closely he is working with screenwriter Michael Arndt at this time. We reported last month that Steven Spielberg said he isn't interested in directing this long-awaited follow-up. George Lucas also revealed that his longtime friend probably won't change his stance on directing the sequel..

"I'm pretty sure he'd never want to do that! I don't think he'd want to."

Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters in 2015 and stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.

The less George Lucas has to do with this next series of films, the better...

Why would he not have much to do with HIS series? Retarded.

    1. For some reason, I feel like I'm being dicked around
    2. My god dude, your an idiot
    3. DiCaprio's ROmeo and Juliet was good. Same words, same same characters, shown in a modern world like a freaking broadway play. Weird, but excellent in depth
    4. This whole consultant thing is fallacious. Even the ordinary individual can handle without having Lucas breathing down their necks telling them how to do sh*t.

@thedude1 He basiclly did. He sold it, and is from what he said, just someone to ask questions about the star wars universe to. And the only issue people have with the prequels is Jar Jar. But people had a issue with the Ewoks when they was put int Return of the Jedi. Rest of the prequels was at least, close to par with what was the original. Some dialogue with Anakin, was bad. But I think it was more the actor's delivery then what was written. But beyond the fact, that the prequels had way better graphic and CGI to use, for me, they was as good as the original story. I wish there was a bit, story wise, what we see on Clone Wars animation show, did for the movies. But I, as well as a few others who I see have spoke on this so far as well, do not see how they was either bad, or so far under what the original trilogy was as you see. For me, if Lucas is not going to be more hands on in the next trilogy pack of movies, I would rather see a whole new story. Old Republic or say 50 years or more past Return of the Jedi for The New Republic. I would love to see a rebuilding trilogy, and such. But some, Carrie Fisher for one, is no where in shape to be their original character. I think Ford, and Hamill could be though.

I've got a feeling that Star Wars Episode 7 is doomed at this point, if Goeorge Lucas doesn't have do much with it.

Well obviously, that's kind of what a creative consultant does. Stands in the background and offers little help in assisting the directors work on the film.

As you know I am a huge fan of the prequels which overall were better then the original trilogy and I am a fan of Lucas, but I think this is a good idea. He should be around to consult, but the I think the films need to be taken into another direction and putting it in someone else hands to give new life to the universe and I think in the long term it will be good for the Star Wars Franchise.

@gandoff2169 Im pretty sure that the price tag on this makes it all but certain it is no longer Lucas' to with as he wants. In the final contract, consulting was added so he could help guide the new film makers as stated above.

It is no longer in his hands.

Kinda sick of all this "Star Wars news" that isn't really news at all.

What's next? Tomorrow they will be telling us "one of the many directors in line to direct Star Wars gets a new dog"

@gandoff2169 No doubt he is the creator of a great franchise however the prequels he helped make were less than average. He also said he wanted to leave the franchise and basically retire. He should take his own advice.

@thedude1@dan1 Could you explain to me, how Lucas, who is the creator, God of All Star Wars, not having input be a bad thing???? People might not like things the creator does to what he made, but its his to do with what he wants. For me, a greater crime is what they do to Shakespeare's works for movies, like those crappy Romeo and Juliet in east LA with gun fights..

As the story develops more and more it looks like Star Wars will not end well. I took it, that Lucas would have some input on them for one. Not major control but enough input that the movie would be, well, good. Two, that a big name director of some kind would direct it. Someone who has the chops for such a HUGE undertaking, and experiences in doing major franchises, and working. But with so many big names walking away from the chance to direct, some saying it being TOO big, and others because Lucas is their "friend", Disney might be in trouble. Silly thing is, some who said it was to big, in my opinion, have done some movies on the same level on the scale as a HUGE franchise. Three who would be the best fit to do it, one, Peter Jackson, two, Jon Favreau, and three, Steven Spielberg.
