George Lucas Chimes in on a Fifth Indiana Jones Film

After the success of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which now stands as the third highest grossing film of the year behind Iron Man and The Dark Knight, notions of a fifth movie are in the air. Newsweek is reporting that George Lucas has no plans to cede the fedora to Shia LaBeouf, who portrayed Indy's son, Mutt Williams, insisting that Harrison Ford must be on board.

"He is Indiana Jones," Lucas said of Ford. "If Indiana Jones wasn't in it, you'd have to call it 'Mutt Williams and the search for Elvis.' ... "Yeah, it's 'Mutt Williams and the Search for Elvis.'"

Lucas also added that there is the possibility of a fifth movie, provided Harrison Ford is on board and he comes up with an interesting idea.

"The franchise really depends on me coming up with a good idea," Lucas said. "And that series is very research-intensive. So we're doing research now to see if we can't come up with another object for him to chase ... hopefully we'll come up with something."

I still dont get why people can except artifacts from christian mythology but can't take legends out of south america, just becuase you didnt learn about crystal skulls in sunday school big deal. Indy looks for artifacts plain and simple, I enjoyed the last indy flick. It was no raiders but still pretty cool. Oh and special note the holy grail doesnt exist or crystal skulls or magic rocks, so sit back people and enjoy the frakin movie, its a movie. Bring on another Indy Lucas. Hell there was a 700 year old knight in Holy Grail I didnt hear any bitching, but aliens oh no!

Rock on Vamp at least im not the only one. jabinferno, Howard the Duck is hilarious.

The supernatural, that was always a part of Indy's films. But aliens?! That was just too far, and I'm not going to change my mind on that. Didn't feel like an Indy film at that point. Couldn't work out if he was Indy or Han Solo. However, I welcome news of a fifth film now Lucas is saying that it's Ford or no-one for the lead role. It shows me that Lucas hasn't completely lost his marbles.

They need to make another one so we can forgive 'Chrystal.' That was the worst Lucas production since 'Howard the Duck.'

I agree with vamp. and if you look at the books and comic books that followed the first movie, it deals with pirates to zombie nazis so i think there are alot of stories they can do and i think they should make another one especially becuase shia isnt going to be the star

The fith movie wasnt bad, it had its flaws, a la frigde and end space vortex, but beside that it was entertaing, it wasnt as good as the first or third one, but oh well, movie sequels that exceed the first movie are rare enough so stop griping about it.

I'm so sick of hearing this, you guys expect far to much from an Indy film. Is aliens really THAT hard to comprehend. I mean in the first movie God melted people and sucked them into the sky. In the second film, a clan of people that lived in a volcano could pass their hands into you and grab your heart and pull it out, WHILE you still lived through it all! In the third film, there was a man almost seven hundred years old or MORE! Is aliens really anything compared to all this? No it's not. Cripes, I'm not one of those ones that's all "Aliens are real, man! They're out there dude!' but seriously, compared to what we've had, it's really not that hard to handle.

as crappy as an idea this is of having a the Indy movie, it will be done. It's all about the money and franchise. the kingdom of the crystal skull was one of the dumbest movies of the year, yet is the 3rd highest grossing film this year, behind Iron Man and The Dark Knight.

There will definitely be a 5th Indiana jones film. Hopefully Lucas won't be heavily involved in the scriptwriting phase of production.

Hats off to Chad_vital, the last one was crap so why make another one, lucas is winging it on the indie and starwars series, i mean he already brought out another starwars movie.. i think lucas forgot where starwars ended and indie began (Aliens come on people)

you know i had a big long comment before went to post it and lost it all, lol so not typing it again, lol

Thanks for this! I was hoping it wouldn't go down with Shia La Beouf's character becoming the main, I'dve been pissed! It's good to know that Lucas wants Harrison Ford to do it, or there'll be no more. He's redeemed himself in my eyes with this recent bit of news.

Thank you thank you thank you. I was worried about the hat being passed on. I liked Indy 4, but I would like a more tangible artifact this time around too.

Here's some suggestions on a mythical artifact that might be cool to see.

    The Golden Fleece?
    The Book of Thoth?
The Tablets of Destiny? (Mesopotamian myth)
And I'll bold and assume lots of us would like to see something with Atlantis and plenty of Orichalc*m? :)

The Spear that pierced the side of Christ...
    The Garden of Eden...
    The armor of Achilles...

    The list goes on.

  28. Chad Vital

Crystal Skull wasn't very good to begin with... I mean the dialogue wasn't funny and it was dry and the plot was completely retarded. They recycled old sh*t and just changed things around...there wasn't even any suspense to the puzzle solving problems! He knew the answer within 3 seconds of the question or problem...which was kinda stupid.

And on a second note, Lucas seems to be "winging" it lol on this new one he wants to do...if he really knew about his own material he could easily do what he wanted with it and have Mutt change his name to Indiana Jones Jr. To keep the Indy name and legacy.

But back to the whole idea(s)...why do they need to make another one there was no need for the last film let alone a new one. If the movie is pointless why make another pointless one following it...it's not like it's a franchise reboot starting all over again so why do they need to make more?
