George Clooney Interested in Taking on Jack Ryan?

Is George Clooney interested in stepping into Harrison Ford's and Ben Affleck's shoes? According to The Daily Beast, George Clooney has apparently expressed interest in a revival of the Jack Ryan character from the Tom Clancy novels and such films as Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games and, most recently, 2002's The Sum Of All Fears.

Clooney also appears to be looking for his next commercial opportunity now that the Ocean's franchise seems to be played out. A source says he expressed interest in playing Jack Ryan when and if Paramount attempts to revive the Tom Clancy series. Clooney seems to recognize that at this time in the world and this time in his life (he's pushing 50), it's time for some commercial maintenance.

clooney would be great, but it would be smarter to get a slightly younger actor for the possible franchise.

I'm not a Affleck fan, but he did a decent job with SUM, that was a smart choice. Infact i don't see why he can't come back to the role.

    Younger is smarter.

    btw, good one shelly, lol.

I don't know what to make of Clooney as Jack Ryan. I am a big Tom Clancy and Jack Ryan fan. I wonder what is Clancy's views on this. I majorly hope they do not turn Jack Ryan into a super spy at all. That the same with John Clark, they are both not James Bond, Ethan Hunt or Napoleon Solo and Illya Kuryakin. What they will need is alot of drama and supense in it, to keep it like the real spy world. Hope they also remember not to turn Jack Ryan into a Operation Office, which he is not, that is John Clark. Ryan is a analyst in CIA's Directorate Of Intelligence.
Harrison Ford and Alec Baldwin was good in their own of playing Jack Ryan that worked. Clooney that up in the air, but Paramount has to do alot of rethinking, like what is the storyline, how close to the real spy world do they want it, where to film it, will the CIA's public affairs be asked for help and last of all is Clancy in anyway part of the project, like producer or the one with the story idea.

he's not bad... maybe an ok replacement for Ford, though I think I'd still rather have Ford over CLooney. i liked the younger direction they took with Affleck... that was a pretty solid film.

As much as I like Clooney, I can see him as Sam Fisher not Jack Ryan but either case it may or may not be that good a film.
It's the same world as Splinter Cell, maybe one day in the far future both characters might meet.

We've had what, three Jack Ryan's so far and maybe two (really) good movies out of the four? As much as I like Clooney but it's been 12 years since he did "The Peacemaker", and Affleck's "The Sum of All Fears" didn't do the franchise any favors. I think they need to take a deep breath and re-think this.

A terrible idea, in my opinion. Clooney's okay, but as Jack Ryan...
I'm not seeing it at all.
