Geoffrey Rush Prepping for Pirates of the Carribbean 4

Despite the recent news that Disney exec Dick Cook was leaving the company, one of our favorite pirates has revealed he's ready to get back to work. recently spoke to actor Geoffrey Rush who revealed he will reprise his role as Captain Barbosa for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides for a Spring 2010 shoot.

"They're waiting for the screenplay writers to put together something that's beyond the trilogy, take it off into a new direction so that it's fresh and hopefully really interesting for an audience, that they're not going to just sausage-machine out something else, which wouldn't be so good."

Cool, ZanyZap was the only one who attacked. I deliberately spelled scr!pt incorrectly, to see which of you would attack me. I'm glad to see it was only poor ZanyZap who fell for the trap. That's good.

Just trying to find out who's a friend! LOL!

Depp only lost a bit of interest, give him time to adjust. All he needs is an ego boost from his friends. He'll be back, I know he will.

"Sausage-machine"... really? that's the best analogy he could come up with?
glad to hear this project isn't officially off. hopefully Depp remains on and all works out. curious how it would all work out, though, considering Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly both said before they won't return for a fourth movie.

Awesome! I was hoping Geoffrey Rush would return as Barbossa. Definitely one of my favorite characters from the first three movies! Can't wait to hear more news. PLEASE RETURN JOHNNY! :)

"I had to add the second "Y", so it would go though."
Really...I didn't know scr*pt had one "y," let alone two, Van. Your spelling skills amaze! ;P

As for Rush's impending return, it is pointless if it doesn't coincide with Depp's. Captain Jack rules the Pirate films, but more importantly, he controls the fans. Without him, box office revenue sinks lower than Davy Jones' Locker.

Rush was GREAT as Barbossa. He's just like Depp. He's the type of actor who actually ENJOYS the role he plays and doesn't attach himself to films because of dollar signs or to promote himself.

This article is so wrong and should be amended immediately. The MTV article clearly indicated that this interview took place BEFORE the news about Cook's departure! Why can't people read?

I may sound like a dumbass, but does anybody know why the word "scryypt", doesn't go through to the comments? I had to add the second "Y", so it would go though.

If Rush is attached, Depp may want to be also. Rush is great in whatever he does. His Barbosa is probably the only other character, quality and entertaining-wise, to rival Depps' Sparrow.

It sounds like rush wasn't given any specifics though. It's probably all still up in the air, with Disney holding their breath on Depp's word.

I just hope Depp doesn't do it begrudgingly, to the point that he's walking through the part and the character performance suffers.

Good to hear Rush say they aren't going to put something lame out there just for the sake of doing it. Let's hope we don't wait forever, and then it's a dumb-assed story like what happened with "Crystal Skull" and "Superman Returns". The former came late because the story was never good enough and the latter because they couldn't decide on a man to don the blue and red tights.

Let's hope this is Disney's, "Batman Begins", except of course, without a new actor playing Sparrow.

Depp hasn't yet stated that his coming back, he just stated that due to the firing / resignation of Dick Cook.

That his enthusiasm to continue the character has decreased due to the fact that it was Cook that made him the character and got him the role even before the screenplay was written. Despite that his interest to carry on is not all there, he stated that he will only continue if the screenplay is good and more exciting than the trilogy
He didn't confirmed he ain't returning, he just stated he lost partial interest due to the events that happened in Cook's case.

There is no way in hell this starts shooting by that date especially when they will have to rewrite the whole plot because Depp isnt going to come back.
