Gary Ross to Write Venom Spin-Off Film
It seems that the writer of the next Peter Parker advenure will also be writing a film centering on one of his enemies. According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog, Spider-Man 4 screenwriter Gary Ross will also be writing a Venom spin-off film as well.

The villain appeared in Spider-Man 3, portrayed by Topher Grace, and there has been talk of a spin-off film for quite some time now, and it seems to be moving forward with Ross' involvement. The studio wouldn't comment on whether or not Grace would return to reprise his role as Venom.

It was also reported that Ross may direct the film as well, with Avi Arad and Marvel Studios producing.

Venom comes to theaters in 2012.

If they do it right, it will do well for the rest of its life. If they do it wrong, it will do well the first weekend then it will drop like a fly after that.

Topher as Eddie was fine, but Venom should have been buff as f*ck and not corny etc. That's the mistake. They could have pulled off the whole small Eddie Brock thing, then seriously beefed him up with CGI when he was Venom. The idea is so easy why didn't they do that? I'm glad I don't make movies cause if I had a good or right idea about something, and somebody told me 'no' I would seriously flip sh*t lol. Only if I knew fans would freak out if it wasn't right. Cause seriously, what's the point of doing a film on any comic book character if you're not gonna be accurate? So you can have everyone talk about how much they f*cked it up? No.

I heard that Topher likes the spot light, why do you think he all ways looks the same. His eye's gives him away, he gets high.

Maybe Arnold Schwarzennegger should play Eddie Brock then lol. I think that if they would have waited another film and properly set up Eddie Brock and Venom, Topher Grace could have done a decent job. They shoved Venom in there because they didn't know if Raimi and Tobey were going to return and fanboys cried for the character to be included.

Topher isn't crazy looking enough to be Carnage (or a serial killer). He has this look on his face that he's happy even when he's sad and that just doesn't look genuine on film.

The thing I didn't get about Topher's Venom, was that he wasn't even big. He was somewhat muscular, but not ripped like Venom has always been. They could get Sam to play Eddie, and then when he's Venom have the CGI Venom look buff as sh*t. It's not that hard of a concept, don't know why they didn't do that before.

I meant the actual Venom when he's all scary and sh*t looks like he's about 400lbs of pure muscle.

  6. The Narrator: The Better Man

Lol, I know Chad. And I wouldn't really want a R rating for any main steam superhero unless it fully requires it which most never do. But Venom would be a near exception or most likely Carnage. After all, he is a serial killer.

And yeah, Topher can bulk all he wants...never gonna be manly enough for that particular role. He would have fit Cassidy(Carnage) better. Skinny, psychotic, evil, etc.

So like someone said for me Venom should be Sam Worthington. I mean if you look at Clash of the Titans, and if they upstage him we got a plausible guy. I mean a 400lb bulked journalist? Lol. If only man.

Venom's gotta be like 400lbs dude. Adding 30lbs isn't gonna make Topher look any more like Venom lol. I like Topher, but he was poorly casted for that role. He should have been somebody else. They shoulda made him a new character, just some photographer guy who's a pain in Peter's ass, and that's it.

They will never make Spiderman rated R Fallen, lol. I'd love to see that but it will NEVER happen. It's like the biggest family friendly Marvel character. Maybe it ties with Fantastic Four violence wise.

  8. The Narrator: The Better Man

Topher sucked a bit, but he would have done better with bette material. Clearly he is not the comic fan he portrays in That 70's show or he would have known better.

And yes, Venom needs to be big. But not HUGE. More like a really built Sam Worthington (thanks to whoever said that). Thats who I would cast as Venom. Because he eventually slims down. And also, Eddie is older than Parker. While Parker is in his 30's right now, Venom is in his 40's and is currently Anti-Venom. And the bad guy in this shouldn't be anything corny like the police, or himself, or even kingpin or what not. He needs someone to go to bat with him, strong/fast and badass enough, blow for blow. It should probably be Carnage, but then again it would help to have an R rating and fans already want Carnage in the Spiderman series to make up for Venom. So IDK.

Also, I have to agree, Sam Elliot was the coolest part in Ghostrider. :P that guy is the man.

It wasnt so much Topher Grace's acting as it was the way his character was written. Im not saying he was the right person for the job but if they wouldnt have crammed Venom in there like they did Grace could have done a decent job. Spiderman 3 should have just introduced Eddie Brock as the same size as Peter Parker and then in the next one have him turn into Venom with about 30 lbs of muscle packed on.

Sorry about the short story, I was just having fun. the last Ghost Rider was okay, it was just his age otherwise I liked it.
Any film Sam is in gives me a smirk, he is cool.

Okay Todd, I will concede. Cage is too old for the part, but I still think he did a good job.

And the coolest part of Ghost Rider...Sam Elliot. The man is so cool, he just has to stand there with a shovel and you don't want to screw with him!

The best eye candy..Eva Mendez. What a caboose! Yummmmm!

'S-piderman, come and get it' Venom taunts the superhero as he looks around the area sensing him nearby.
'Ha look it's muscle boy and tar man' a voice says from behind Venom which looks over his shoulder.
'How?' Venom gasps, showing his pointed teeth.
'Looky looky, venom. I'm the hero here, go after King Pin again I might be forced to call in the Avengers' Spiderman says as he swings toward him.
Venom reaches out lashing a dark web at the hero which moves away to his right just in time.
'Get out of my way bug, I'll crush you like a fly' Venom threatens, launching himself into the air to get away from him but changes his mind as he chases after the spider. Baring his big white fangs as several people run away in terror.

Venom should look identical to the comics. I don't even know why this is a debate to them lol. It wouldn't make sense to have Topher in this because he looks nothing like Eddie Brock (he's a big guy) so maybe YOU should pick up some comics Slim, since you think Topher didn't mess up Venom. They f*cked it up and he was a part of it. He should have told them the whole his face popping out of it to talk parts were lame and should have spent time working out in the gym to get even bigger so he'd look more like Venom from the comics. He's still a small guy no matter what you say. Even the cgi'd muscle form of Topher as Venom was barely bigger than Spiderman, which is f*cking inaccurate. Venom is huge. Not a unbuff, small, dishonest, scheming, c*cky, whiny, idiotic, photographer.

I feel you about Gary Ross' suckey writing style, Todd. Which makes me so much more pissed about S-M4, and how they gave James Vanderbilt's creative concept away to two other writers to come up with their own take on it. But what made up for it was that they gave Vanderbilt the OK to go ahead and write SCRIPTments for S-M5 and S-M6. And Slim, yes, Venom DOES NEED A BIG BUFF DUDE to play him. End of story.

Dethklokx7, I agree about Topher Grace's face popping out, but I can't subscribe to your opinion about Cage. I thought he did an acceptable job. People always trash actors or movies down the road, but when they are out, they are the best new flavor on the shelf. I never really understood that.

    So I agree and disagree.

Anyone else pissed that in spidey 3 when they did a close up of Venoms face, they switched to Eddie! Plus he looked dumb not glaring his teeth. Not sure if this film will serve the character right, but its worth a shot. The hulk remake got it right. They should probly remake Ghostrider as well.Seriously nick cage sucked. anyone agree?

It has to be an actor in his twenties and has muscles as big as mountains.
Some writers like to do short cuts and this harmed Venom in S3 in so many ways. I'm not only a writer who writes books but I'm in the middle of writing a screen play as well. I find that fans of certain comic characters, do a better job.
Personally I don't like Gary Ross, his writing style just sucks.

For one Topher Grace did not f*ck up Eddie Brock. He played a character that the writers f*cked up. You guys are asking for big buff guys to play Venom, and when they get the big guy- YOU ARE ALL GOING TO BE DISAPPOINTED.

Who cares if the general audience gets confused. Maybe it will teach them to read the comics every once in a while because these writers don't know sh*t.

If they want to do this movie right, they need to get actual writers who know the character and can build this villain in they same way they could with a superhero flick.

I have no hope for this film as I feel it would suck. Those are just my opinions. They wouldn't have to do this film if they got it right in Spider-Man 3.

Newkill, most straight to dvd movies suck ass. Not kidding. I have standards when it comes to production value. Why would you want it to not come to theaters? Makes no sense for them to do that. They get more money this way, and to hopefully please the fans. You can get mad me all you want, but it was a dumb idea on your part regardless. Besides, I know I don't want to see it as a f*cking cartoon anyway. I'm not into cartoons anymore. I'm not 10. I like my childhood brought back and revamped into somewhat adult-ish live action, to where it's more mature and not as corny.

I doubt they will go with Topher again, it wouldn't make any sense since Topher's origin was in S3. What are they gonna do, use him again and redo his origin? Waste of time. And it'd confuse people to have him becoming Venom twice/two different ways. I think they'd get somebody who physically looks the part.
