Gary Oldman talked a bit about The Dark Knight Rises during an interview with MTV.

Although the actor has yet to see the script, Gary Oldman said:

"I haven't seen the script yet. I know the story though and it's a great story. I mean, you look at The Dark Knight and you think how's [director Christopher Nolan] gonna top it? But I think he has."

"It's the scope of it and the way he sort of brings it back to Batman Begins. And really what Bruce Wayne discovers about himself and what he learns about himself by the end of this one."

Check out the video of the full interview below:

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Liam Neeson, Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Aidan Gillen, Marion Cotillard. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

    @SonOfOne41 - To put an emphasis on "way" better is a little extreme. While he probably could've left out the "gothic" approach he took to his films, Burton's Gotham is still MUCH darker than Nolan's Gotham (even in the daytime scenes). There are still people, who even after seeing Nolan's version, still see Burton's Gotham as the best representation of the city.

    This movie seems like it is going to have too many things going on at once. i am hyping this movie madly because Nolan is my favorite filmmaker and he has failed to disappoint me time and time again, but so far, the news about TDKR is not exciting me. In the end though, Nolan will probably prove me wrong but for now, I am a little skeptical.

    @narrator, you're f*cking right! As a serious detractor of "The Dark Knight", it's a little alarming to watch too many samples of some kind of religious belief in a movie that we haven't seen yet!

    @youngrizo I agree it doesnt feel like Gotham, but Nolan's Gotham is WAY better than all the other directors

    Chris Nolan's Gotham just doesn't look or feel enough like Gotham in my eyes, it always takes me out of the experience, especially in the day time scenes. I remember sitting there thinking.. 'hmm Chicago looks nice, oh wait!'

    After two great films I feel like Nolan has very much proven that he can work quite a lot of magic and I see no reason for that to change no matter how many villains are in this film. As for the comment that his Gotham is too clean, I think his Gotham City has been perfect so far but that's just my opinion. I really think there will be a fourth film anyway but regardless, I think Nolan has earned the trust his fans have in him and then some!

    @Kupo,

    I mean, Nolan's films are all very clean, the universe he builds for every film is just too clean, I looked at Gotham in both those movies and was like 'that's not gotham, the only thing, that has been done well in his films in my opinion is how the Batman/Bruce Wayne Character is written and how the Joker was written, everything else to me seems like you could replace Batman with Frank Castle and the film would instantly become 'The Punisher'.

    I like the Batman world that is a little less realistic, were some of the villains are larger than life, the Batman world that Superman can exist in, not this world that is entirely too realistic for the rest of the DC universe.

  11. The Narrator: The Better Man

    God. People who keep saying, "In Nolan we trust", despite whatever negative business is going on regarding the film, need to get wake up. It's like those safety adds always say - if you see something, say something. that's the case for me here.

    While I can't wait for TDKR, I am a little nervous as to how Nolan'll fit in all of this stuff in the final installment of the trilogy. He has to bring the story full circle, introduce Kyle, Bane, and possibly another villain, not to mention the fact that he has to address the ending and repercussions of the last films finale; it's toll on Gotham as a whole, the relationship between Bats and Gordon being further strained, the mob disassembled, etc. I mean damn, he's not flawless people, and as I said, he has a sh*t load of work cut out for him. It's not a crime to feel worried about a film that doesn't necessarily have good signs attached to it. If anyone else were directing this film, we'd see these articles and be like, "Damn, this is too much," or, "This is gonna suck," etc. But because Nolan's attached, it's obviously gonna work. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

    Gary Oldman is hands down one of the top 10 actors of all time, if not top 5. His ability to act in about any role shines through in a very humanistic fashion, that makes him extremly believable in hie role. And if he says, TDKR will be fanntastic, and that much better the the first two? I have to take his word on it, concidering how great a acto he is.

    @youngrizo

    ah, so you say you don't really enjoy "Nolan's Universe" of Batman. While Nolan's version is undoubtedly more realistic, the majority of the concepts from both his films are derived from some of the best Batman comics, like Long Halloween and the Dark Knight Returns. You're kind of contradicting yourself when you say you're a fan of the comics, but not a fan of Nolan's take on things when in fact the comics themselves were used a reference for the film.

    I really don't know what your favorite type of Universe is, because when you say "fan of the comics and a fan of the cartoons" they are both very ambiguous statements. For all I know, your favorite universe comes from the old Detective Comics of Batman and you're favorite cartoon is The Batman on kids WB.

    The most enjoyable Batman movie I've watched is animated, and it's 'Under the Red Hood'... Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are good films but for me, as a Batman fan, a fan of the comics and a fan of the cartoons, i hate the direction Chris Nolan took the Universe in. I still enjoyed the films immensely and thought they were something special but I look at them as 'Chris Nolan's Batman Begins' and 'Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight'... It's his world, and not the Batman world I like. Granted, he's the director, I still feel a better job of meshing the batman universe with his approach.

    I don't know... I like em but as Batman films I can't enjoy his take on the Batman universe.
