G.I. Joe Retaliation pushed to March 2013 for 3D conversion
The action sequel is now going up against Summit's Stephenie Meyer adaptation The Host, and Tyler Perry's The Marriage Counselor. Here's what an unnamed Paramount executive had to say about the release date shift.
"We're going to do a conscientious 3D job because we've seen how it can better box office internationally. Jim Cameron did all of Titanic's 3D in post - and look how well that movie turned out."
The month of March is now being considered as a viable option to release big-budget fare, after the box office success of The Hunger Games, which has taken in $636 million worldwide to date. If the sequel would have stayed in its June 29, 2012 release slot, it would have been going up against Warner Bros.' Magic Mike, Disney's People Like Us, and Lionsgate's Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection.
G.I. Joe Retaliation was released March 28th, 2013 and stars Dwayne Johnson, Jonathan Pryce, Byung-hun Lee, Elodie Yung, Ray Stevenson, D.J. Cotrona, Adrianne Palicki, Channing Tatum. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu.

I am not a big fan of the 3D movies. But there is a small place for them. There a big different between filming a movie in 3D and 3D post-production conversion. I only like 3D movies that were shot in 3D. Just from how many people posting a comments. I think this could back fire on Paramount Pictures. I was looking forward to seeing this movie. But I think people will lose interests in this film by the time it ever does come out. All because of they think they could make more money. Come on moving goers, we need to get Hollywood back to basic of making good films with good stories, and sticking by their words. Do you think if I told my boss, I going to hand in a project late just because I could make it better months later. The business client will just move on to another business to get what they want at that moment they want something. That mean you will loss your clients. This could happen, Paramount will loss the movie fans for this movie, and they will be interested in another film by that time. We will see. We will see....

@monkeyiron2-0 Cameron re-released it because this is the 100th year ever since the sinking. The 3D was for the experience to be much closer to the ship more than ever. Mr Chu, a.k.a the director of Bieber's "Never Say Never", made an insanely stupid decision after releasing multiple trailers to convert it to 3D.. and now we have to wait another whole year -_-. It's Chu.

Let's all just NOT go to the 3D showings and just go to the 2D showings, so that they'll see that nobody wants 3D. BUT PEOPLE ARE STILL GONNA BE STUPID ENOUGH TO WATCH IT IN 3D WHYY!!

@monkeyiron2-0 : Hahaha I knew someone would notice this lol! I'm actually a fan of James Cameron and love most of his work but was never a fan of 3D... and everything seems to be turning around 3D because of him and Avatar.

@jasonkat I'd call Walmart and ask for some kind of reimbursement or refund, on a count of false advertising from them and Paramount. Use those words and you'll probably get something back from their fear of lawsuits.
@superman81 I hope a few screeners get leaked and everyone loses interest by the time this comes out. I feel bad for the people who worked hard on this, but this movie flopping is the only way these f*cking execs will learn not to try to milk us for everything we're worth.
@gumperman Agreed. In 3 years I don't think we'll have any more major action franchises coming out in 2D.
And the 3D itself doesn't bother me, it's the goddamn ticket prices. I'd watch 3D if it cost what a 2D ticket cost, but even a dollar more is just ridiculous. What are they charging us for anyway, the glasses? I'd rather buy my own pair of glasses once and take them every time and have lower ticket prices. In fact I think that's what they're doing in Europe in some places.

In my opinion, they should still forget the 3-D, and move it to either october or november, maybe. But I really can't believe it takes that long to convert to 3-D, a lot of people are pissed, because the movie has been advertised so much already, by next year many could lose intetest.

Agree with superman81, Let the bootlegging begin, If that does happen, Those morans will have no choice then to release it earlier like Sept, or Oct. Cause by November everyone would have seen it already, lol. Very bad move, wow

Not a good idea. Bumping it to next year is waaay too drastic, and shows the company has no confidence in their product! Just because "Battleship" flopped does not mean G.I. Joe would.
The "Battleship" movie was ill-fated from conception, while the first Joe film made over $300 million! What's more, G.I. Joe Retaliation (unlike "Battleship") has a strong cast as well as a built-in fan base. I would have simply moved it to August, away from the top contenders "The Avengers", "Amazing Spider-Man", and "The Dark Knight Rises" films.
Besides, next year it will have to contend with a whole new crop of blockbusters including "Iron Man III", "Superman The Man Of Steel", and JJ Abrams' "Star Trek II" among others.
Moving it ahead of the 2013 summer blockbusters to March doesn't guarantee the film success either, because it is before the summer movie season - remember, Disney's "John Carter" flopped.
The previous year, Universal - fearing they had a flop on their hands, bumped the date of "The Green Hornet" movie from Summer 2010 to January 2011 and it was made into 3D also. Guess what? It stilll flopped!
Bottom line is: if the movie sucks, it sucks - it will be unavoidable it no matter when you move it to.

@incmob at least we dont have to worry about Nolan pulling this crap with TDKR. I feel that if you dont film it in 3D, why even bother converting it. If you are going to convert, at least have it planned so fans arent pissed off. they think they are so smart doing this but they dont realize that its made way more people angry then happy

This i agree is ridiculous, outrageous and i am as pissed as anyone else, i was hoping for a great redemption of sorts after the first film... however...
Paramount is not entirely stupid... whether we like 3d or not (we can all thank james cameron for bringing it back... not with titanic, but with avatar) the thing is... more and more films are getting the 3d conversion. and on top of that... 81 comments so far... how many of you have noticed that action films that have gotten the 3d conversions are getting less and less 2d showings? soon 3d will be the only way to view... my point it is money in the pockets of the execs. i refuse to see 3d... i had no choice to see avengers in 3d for the first showing and honestly did not like it until i saw it in 2d the second time. 3d is hype but it also makes more money, plain and simple. however this is a weird move, thinking of all the marketing that has been put into this film... now the posters will have to be changed, trailers, even the action figures are out to a movie that wont be out for a year... maybe paramount is not so bright after all.

This is some bullsh!t. Paramount you are f*cking rediculous! We don't need every movie in 3D, and I won't ever see this is 3D. I didn't even watch The Avengers in 3D for Christ sake. I hate when companies do this, Warner Bros. did the same thing with Harry Potter and Half-Blood Prince, 2 months before it's release date back in September 2008 and moved it to July 2009. And now a month before this movie is supposed to be released and Paramount pulls the same sh*t! Unbelievable! I love how the guy states, "Jim Cameron did all of Titanic's 3D in post" Well no sh*t dumb ass, Titanic was made in 1997, he defiantly didn't film it in 3D during production as this digital 3D sh*t didn't come out until 20 years later. Lame!!!!
