Friday Night Lights tops. AVP does box office business

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sci-fi showdown actioner Alien vs. Predator sold about 1.85 million combined DVD and VHS units Tuesday, its first day on store shelves, according to executives at 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. While that figure doesn't set any home video industry records, it does mean that AVP, starring Sanaa Lathan and Lance Henriksen, nearly matched its opening-weekend domestic boxoffice take of $38.3 million during its first 24 hours on retail shelves, according to industry sources.

Meanwhile, Friday Night Lights, starring Billy Bob Thornton, was the nation's best-selling DVD for the week ending Jan. 23rd, according to Nielsen VideoScan's weekly First Alert DVD sales chart.
