NBC and DirecTV's Friday Night Lights, which was an adaptation of the hit theatrical movie Friday Night Lights, may be headed back to the big screen with its small screen cast intact.

This new movie will pick up right after the series' finale, and will center on Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and Tami (Connie Britton). Peter Berg, director of the original movie as well as numerous episodes of the TV show, is pushing forward, hoping to make this project a reality.

Getting Friday Night Lights back on the big screen will serve as a challenge for Peter Berg, as there are many rights holders to the franchise name.

A rep for Universal had this to say about the project.

"We do not currently have a Friday Night Lights project in development."

Friday Night Lights was released October 8th, 2004 and stars Billy Bob Thornton, Lucas Black, Garrett Hedlund, Derek Luke, Jay Hernandez, Lee Jackson, Lee Thompson Young, Tim McGraw. The film is directed by Peter Berg, Josh Pate.
