Francis Lawrence and Will Smith Team Up for The City That Sailed

It seems that one of Will Smith's projects may have found a director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Francis Lawrence is circling The City That Sailed, which Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment shingle is producing.

The film was written by Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show) and centers on a New York street magician and his daughter that lives in England. When the daughter comes across a magical set of candles, she makes a wish to be reunited with her father, which causes Manhattan to break free and drift through the Atlantic Ocean towards the U.K.

No deals have been made for either Smith or Lawrence, as of yet, as Smith still hasn't decided which film to pursue next and Lawrence is also developing Water for Elephants at Fox 2000.

Wow, i can't believe it. There was no Will Smith movie this summer. No wonder the 4th of July sucked so bad and didn't have any movies to break any records.

I don't know about The City That Sailed; sounds strange...

Water for Elephants is an excellent book; should make a wonderful film, potentially Oscar worthy, if done correctly.
