Fox Searchlight Pictures and The Weinstein Company have aligned with one another to create a joint acquisitions agreement for the worldwide distribution rights to La Misma Luna the directorial debut feature from Patricia Riggen. TWC and Fox Searchlight will share equally in the film's worldwide revenues and the two companies are currently discussing which entity will distribute in which territory worldwide, based on their respective resources and desires. The joint announcement was made by Peter Rice, president of Fox Searchlight and Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company.

The cast includes recent Golden Globe winner America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Adrian Alonso (The Legend of Zorro), Kate del Castillo, Eugenio Derbez, Maya Zapata, and Carmen Salinas. The Spanish language film was written by Ligiah Villalobos. Riggen and Villalobos produced the film along with Gerardo Barrera, Norman Dreyfuss and Ram Bergman.

In La Misma Luna (The Same Moon), Riggen gives us the parallel stories of nine-year-old Carlitos and his mother, Rosario. In the hopes of providing a better life for her son, Rosario works illegally in the U.S. while her mother cares for Carlitos back in Mexico. Unexpected circumstances drive both Rosario and Carlitos to embark on their own journeys in a desperate attempt to reunite. Along the way, mother and son face challenges and obstacles but never lose hope that they will one day be together again. Riggen's film is not only a heartwarming family story; she also offers subtle commentary on the much-debated issue of illegal immigration.

While at Miramax, Harvey Weinstein also collaborated with Fox Searchlight distributing the 2004 hit Garden State.
