Fox Rejects 24 Movie Script

Fox passes on 24 movie script
20th Century Fox has axed the 24 film script from State of Play screenwriter Billy Ray about rogue CTU agent Jack Bauer from the long-running TV drama 24, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"As far as I know, it is in suspended animation," said 24 executive producer Howard Gordon. "There is talk about re-approaching it. I understand (director/producer) Tony Scott is meeting with Kiefer Sutherland to talk about ideas. People are still talking about it."

"I was disappointed [Fox] passed on the script but I'm certainly hopeful that the movie will get made at some point," Howard Gordon said. "Anecdotally, I've heard from people who are really missing the show and I do think there is more life in Jack Bauer."

The plan is to make a two-hour movie presentation of the 24 world everyone has come to know.

No production date has been set.

24 is in development .

@Messenger: Yes, I liked the Logan plot from season 5, but it seemed to have a lot of focus, and not really going anywhere except further successes for Logan, and further setbacks for Bauer. The first season was my favorite as it was the most down to earth storyline, excelling in realism in how it was told, save for the underground bunker prison thing. But the whole set up was great. And season 2 followed suit with more emphasis on the difficulty of getting from point a to point b, and season 3 had nearly half of it in mexico with intriguing storylines. Later on, there were so many subplots going on that you'd leave Jack at point A to deal with another few characters, then catch up with him again at Point B with no emphasis on inbetween events. And it was too predictable with who was doing what for who, etc etc. Season 7 was by far the worst though. WAY too out there and over the top.

I began to watch 24 by season 5 and loved it. Season 4 is the only one I haven't seen yet, I've been thinking of getting it so I can watch it.
I began to watch Pillars of the Earth last night with Don Sutherland and I enjoyed it.

You do understand the premise of 24? You make is sound like every week there is a knew threat he has to deal with. It's actually that everyweek or episode is one hour of the day and in that day there is a major threat. And there is sometimes years in the shows time line between seasons, so it's not like everyday there is a major threat. Which you would be surprised how many people who hate 24 because they think that every season, every threat takes place right after each other, with the entire series taking place with in a week.

@Messenger ive watch this show and some how every week the world or something epidemic is gonna happen, i think the fan base is strong for either show and lets face it these companies are gonna milk these products for all their worth

@Pjwolsker opinions very but their is not need to be harsh didn't know you were so uptight about 24, however i do understand yes their is a movie and its called superman what im saying is end the series with a movie based on the show, go out in this fans opinion style, same with supernatural any loyal fan of either show would just love to watch their show come to an end on the big screen, that is what i meant

Did you know how Curtis went out was actually how Carlos Bernard wanted Tony to go out. Carlos actually thought of the idea. I LOVED the first 4 ep. of S6 but after that it went down hill.

@Messenger i know exactly what you mean.
@Slysnide there's no such thing as a bad season of 24... except maybe the 6th one. nuclear suitcase bombs attached to flying drowns was a little over the top. and when jack killed curtis.. i did not like that. the movie will be badass though

in my mind the best seasons in order were: 5,1,8,7,2,4,3,6

And also to be fair, the writers used real world conflicts to spur story lines. And you can actually go back and watch 24 and guess what was happening in the world at that time.

I for one loved the show and don't see how a script couldn't be written with rather ease at this point! I disagree about it sucking half way through, I thought it was excellent from start to finish!

@Pj: not neccessarily idiotic to bash a "24" movie. The second half of the series sucked. Even the 4th season was sorely lacking what the first 3 had. Shifted to being focused on international--what a surprise--mid-east terror network plots with tie ins to private security firms and--what a surprise--more traitors on the inside whom are the easiest to spot. Went way downhill in TV Logic practicality after the first 3 which featured 3 very different ideas with 3 different ways of telling the story, whereas seasons 4-8 were rehashes of the same idea recycled again and again, to no new surprises.

@Messenger - Sorry, dude, but you've come to the wrong site if you want it to be clean. Don't get me wrong, I could do without the drama too, but most of the posts on sites are going to attract comments from the people who are going to do nothing but say negative things in the comment section. Especially this site. The ones that I like occur when I see people talk about how excited they are when a certain movie is going to be made and the closer the film gets to its release date, those same people talk about how bad the movie is going to be in order to be the person who said "I told you so" if the movie does blow even though they did not have a clue themselves... at least that's my theory.

I didn't really aggree on the Renee thing either but it could have been worse. Kim and his grandson could have been murdered. THAT is where I draw the line.

@ejk1 I didn't honestly think Jack was gonna get a happy ending, anyways. But still, they left things pretty unresolved. I did like the TV movie they did, Redemption. Wouldn't mind something like that to wrap things up better.

Thanks for your back up on the issues but lets try keep the name calling to a minimum. I don't post on here unless something really grabs my attention and the reason for that is all the pissing, moaning and name calling. I'm not upset at you just friendly reminder to keep help keep MW a drama free zone =).

    @Skywise

Thanks, I'm big into screenwriting so I like to pick things apart and try to understand what is trying to be said or happy accidents that happen along the way.
