Fox Is Bringing 24 to the Bigscreen!

Jack Bauer is finally coming to the big screen
Jack Bauer is finally coming to the big screen
Twentieth Century Fox's film and TV studios are teaming to develop a bigscreen version of the Kiefer Sutherland-starring action drama series 24.

According to Variety, the film side has hired scribe Billy Ray (State of Play) to pen the script for the feature version. Ray's pitch, which takes Jack Bauer to Europe, was a hit with Fox execs and producers of the high-concept television series.

The script is said to have come through 24 star Kiefer Sutherland, who's also an exec producer on the series -- and is said to be eager to turn the long-running TV skein into a feature franchise.

Fox doesn't have a deal for a ninth season of 24, and hasn't yet decided whether to order another season. Insiders said the network is waiting to see this week's ratings before making a decision, but the betting is that this will be the final season.

No production date was announced.

They really need to take 24 in a different direction. Redemption had a cameraman in one of the shots so I kinda pass on that as being a movie.

people are forgetting about 24: Redemption, that tv movie from 08, 24 could def be a movie. Just like any other espionage thriller.

  5. Messenger

Nah, don't ruin it by pandering to a new audience. They have been doing fine with out doing that so far.

  6. Illuminati

i feel this is redundant. BUT if they are going ahead with this, the should man up, not be stingy and get someone like RIDLEY SCOTT (black hawk down/spygame) on board.

the next most IMPORTANT factor is they should make this with NEW audiences in mind. see how they can introduce the characters and chemistry to audiences unfamiliar with Jack PLUS keeping the old fans entertained.

This could work, as long as they don't put those boring as hell sub-plots in the movie. I love 24 when it has its main focus, but when they force these little personal dramas down my throat, I get pissed. Whether it's cougars(Season 2), a mentally disturbed daughter(Season 4), or a blackmailing former love(This Season), the side stories of 24 have frequently killed the momentum.

  14. kingbrady

@ lovelifefilm, i get your point but the whole idea of 24 is to wrap up this terrorist attack in 24 hours, there is 24 episodes pertaining to this for 8 seasons, making 48 wouldnt make sense

killing jack bauer in the movie should never be uttered again, only problem i have with the show is that there is no way they can do all this in 24 hours, but i have accepted that and dont pay attention to the timeline anymore

  15. Messenger

Season 8 is turning out to be pretty solid, hopefully they concentrate on the story and not the twists.

And I agree with Todd89, I have been seeing Jack Bauer becoming a James Bond or Jack Ryan type of character with several movies for a long time now.

i think he should be killed off in the movie, falling short of his deadline. then they can either start anew with someone else, or end the series.
