Fox Cancels Joss Whedon's Dollhouse!

While Joss Whedon's show may have beat the odds with its second season pickup, it couldn't beat the odds for a full second season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has canceled its sophomore series Dollhouse.

The series is currently in production of its 11th episode and it was said they would finish out the 13-episode order before halting production.

Fox pulled the show out of its November sweeps month lineup and it was said that the show would return on December 4, with back-to-back episodes on Friday nights throughout December. It was said that the network would stick to this plan and will air all 13 episodes of the season.

It was also said that series creator Joss Whedon plans to send the show off with a big finale.

    I wouldn't call him a hypocrite, he's trying his best to keep going.
    Never really cared for the show, Buffy was canceled by them, Firefly and Angel was as well.
    I just wish he would stop giving them shows.
    He needs to return to his hit series instead of going into uncharted territory's. Since he's good at horror then direct or write a few episodes of certain horror shows, I heard that two of them are looking for new writers.

    Josh, would be the biggest hypocrite in the world, telling Fox to suck it, since that is the only network that took a chance on him.
    TSCC was canceled because it kept getting worse and worse.

    This is complete bs! Fox either needs to start recognizing its mistakes like removing Firefly and Dollhouse, Joss Whedon WILL bounce back somehow! That or Joss needs to tell Fox to suck it and move to another network. This is too damn depressing

    I really liked firefly and SCC, they would have done better on the Syfy channel.

    When the Simpson's first came on I hated it and refused to watch it for many years. It"s over done and it's just wrong, same thing with Family Guy and American Dad. These are really bad shows.

    Now, CDT, I loved Prison Break. Although it didn't really improve after it's first season, which should have been nominated for an Emmy. The first half of season 2 was great but when they brought that money issue thing into the mix it just went down hill. Every episode in season 3 was up and down. Season 4 started off good, then it just went out of control and i just finally lost interest, and so did a lot of the viewers, which is why it was canceled. And that Final Break movie was pretty good.

    Key word in your comment, sriske, I liked. See that's just you. For tv shows to be successful you need a lot more than just one person who likes these shows.SCC, Dollhouse, and Titus all were given multiple seasons. In the tv world, that's not being axed way too soon. Firefly didn't work for Fox because it was on the wrong network. Instead of pitching the show to Fox, Whedon should have went to the WB. Drive was a dumbass show that should've never seen the light of day. The reason why Family Guy continues because it puts up gangbuster reviews, and the fact that they do well during the Football seasons on freaking Sundays just shows how great that show is doing, which is why Seth McFarlane has the ear of every Fox exec in the building, hence his two other shows American Dad and Cleveland show. But I do agree with you on the Simpsons. But hey Fox isn't the only network with a show that's been on for more than like 20 years. You see Glee is a new and great show doing very well, unlike Dollhouse, SCC and Firefly.

    I liked Dollhouse, SCC, Firefly, Drive, Titus, and many other wonderful shows fox has axed way too soon. Now I know this is going to be very unpopular, but they need to ax some shows that just keep rehashing the same old bit. The Family guy. Great fart, puke, and gay jokes we get it. From the 1st episode return episode they have almost all been the same as when it was orginally on the air. The Simpsons. I am a firm supporter of the 1st 12 seasons of the Simpsons, but come one lets try a new idea. How about let them age a year. Let the kids change grades. Let Lisa Skip a grade and join Bart in the same class. How many times do we have to relive the telling of how Homer and Marge got together. If you add up the total number of episodes and used each episode as 1 day in the life of a year it is more then a year. Come on Fox throw your fans a bone instead of just giving us the same old crap.

    How did Fox kill SCC? SCC screwed it's own self. Bad ratings produces cancellation. Now, I was even a fan of SCC, but as a fan I gotta admit, it was only when they went into the mythology episodes when it was interesting, but when they started with those lame ass one shot episode, it was a piece of sh*t. That show was just filled with bad writers. The first season was decent but when they got picked up for a second season the episodes just got worse and worse. I can't blame Fox for this. Maybe if Fox wrote the show than of course, but no SCC writers did that. I also enjoyed the series finale of that show, the best episode since the series premiere episode. Dollhouse was canceled because it didn't produce good ratings.
    Todd, there suppose to promote a little of the episode, if they show every little piece of the episode what's the point of even watching it when it actually comes on. Early this year when 24 was still on, every time the show took a commercial break they would promote the hell outta Dollhouse. So, in truth, Dollhouse got the promotion they deserved.
    And you said it right they put it on Fridays because it wasn't competed well against other shows on Tuesdays. they know that no one really watches on Friday night, which is why they weren't expecting a big ratings boost. But they even failed to rebuild there ratings on Friday, because much wasn't expected from a Friday show and they did below average. The premiere episode of Dollhouse helped Fox double its audience levels among women versus Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and helped the network finish in second place among adults 18-34 and in first place across the key male demographic for the night, so obviously TV watchers knew the show was on. The show just got worse and worse with ratings. Know shows fail on Fox, because they do poorly and Fox is smart enough to cancel failing shows. There's only about two crappy shows on Fox that do poorly. Just the same for any networks. Kville, Firefly, Driven these are crappy shows that Fox canceled that don't produce.

    Actually I hate to say this but Fox kills shows like SCC and Dollhouse.

    Newkill you say that they promote their shows, but in truth they don't. Yes, they do show a little of each episode to get people to watch but that's about all they do.

    They get a show but care nothing for it, they stick it on Friday since they know perfectly well that no one watches TV that night. Fox announces a new awesome show, which lasts two seconds, it not only fails in ratings but the TV watchers have no clue that is one.
    This is one of the reasons why shows fail on Fox,but they keep crappy shows which they do promote the Hell out of.

    Fox cancels shows that don't do well. They don't hold onto for lightyears like CBS, who can't just let go of failing shows, for example Gary Unmarried and Rules of Engagement. This is about ratings and Dollhouse couldn't compete and that's why it was canceled. Joss Whedon should be on his knees thanking Fox for what they gave him, because no other networks would ever give him a shot, for example Whedon first went to NBC to pitch his Buffy idea but they turned him down. Fox gave him that chance on the sister station WB.
    Mrphph, obviously, you don't watch a lot of Fox shows, because that's primarily what my tv stays on, way before Dollhouse aired they were promoting the hell outta that show. It even debuted on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, either day those were two big days. And they failed to do good ratings so they were pushed to Fridays, which is like a last chance spot, studios know that most people don't watch tv Fridays because they're usually out, so they don't expect much from shows on Fridays and weekend, but Dollhouse went even more below standards, which is why it wasn't picked up for sweeps month. This show did have a huge buzz on when it first started which is why it got a second season, because Fox wasn't even going to give this a second season, but a bunch of fans of the show wrote letters to Fox demanding that they kept it on air, so Fox granted the audience a second season. And guess what happened either the people who demanded it continue is not watching it or it was really a small number of people who enjoyed it. There's really know way you can blame Fox for canceling this. They gave it a shot. Two years and they're even going to be given episodes to close the show out with. If that would've been NBC, that would have never happened. Southland didn't even get a final episode.

    Cancelled? This sucks! What is Fox thinking? I only discovered Dollhouse near the end of season one; It seems to me that Fox never adequately promoted it. Everyone I've talked to has never heard of the show. No spots, no guests, no buzz. The cancellation has gotten more publicity than the program itself.

    I hope Fox will reconsider and keep Dollhouse going. It has tremendous potential if Fox would let people know about it.

    I liked this show as much as the first season of "24". Stepford Wives meets Total Recall, meets La Femme Nikita. Brilliant!
