Fox and Warner Bros. Agree to Allow Judge to Determine Final Fate of Watchmen

20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers have agreed to allow a federal judge to decide whether or not Watchmen will be released on March 6, as was originally planned by Warner Brothers. The studios made a statement, as reported by the LA Times, where they agreed to allow U.S. District Judge Gary A. Feess to make a final decision, forgoing a jury trial that could have put the film into limbo for an even longer time.

In a preliminary ruling issued December 24, 2008, Feess said that Fox owned the right to distribute Watchmen, and not Warner Brothers. In that same ruling, Feess urged the studios to negotiate a settlement, rather than to bring the case to trial. Any potential trial on remaining parts of the lawsuit will be postponed until after the January 20 hearing about the film's distribution.

"We are gratified by the recognition of our rights in the judge's order, which speaks for itself," Fox said in a statement Tuesday.

Warner Bros. said in a statement: "We will continue to pursue all of our legal options to defeat Fox's meritless claims and remain confident that we will ultimately prevail."

In any case, fans will be watching closely to see what happens with Watchmen, with many fans remaining hopeful that distribution rights and arguments about who should earn the money from the film won't prevent them from seeing the adaptation of the graphic novel created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons.

Watchmen was released March 6th, 2009 and stars Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode, Jackie Earle Haley, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson, Carla Gugino, Matt Frewer. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

I actually agree with comerade on this one. I went to watch x3 in the theaters and I was like come on people this is siriously sucking and badly. I'd say that I easily wasted my money on that one. If i will watch any more x-mens I 'll watch them online and with no people crapping arround my head making me think this is good. because let's face it X-men 3 was a total failure to me and to lots of other people I know.

I would want to boycott fox really easily but I feel that I am the one miising on the movies. I mean really If there was anyone else with the spirit to boycott fox like i do, by which i mean ( boycott fox forreal and not only say it ) then i would for the sake of the novel portrayed in this movie. The book was a very good sucsess and i think we should only do the boycotting for the sake of the novel and the sake of the people who like the novel (WARNER BROS.) not only the people who just want to get the copyright of the movie just to get more money because there own movies sucked (FOX). I bet if WARNER BROS would say "hey let us keep the movie name under our name and give you arround 1/3 of the money we make of it, FOX", FOX would say YES. because they want the money not the movie.
THAT IS WHY FOX IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE A SH*TTY MOVIEMAKING COMPANY, BECAUSE IT MAKES MOVIE FOR THE CASH NOT ENTERTAINMENT AND VALUE.

Messiahbolical, "enough people" would have to total up to at least a billion dollar windfall for Fox to give a flying f*ck. They're all *ssholes. And the more I see of it, the more I think Wolverine is just going to be some slapped-together piece of sh*t with too many characters and no real value like X3.

WB must win, FOX should be give 1 mln $ and shut up, they didn't make a movie, they just had unclear rights. Come on! This is America, it should me go good for us, watchers :)

No ways. Sorry guys, their ain't enough fans of the novel to boycott Fox, that will effect them. So they might get a dint of profits gone but they wont care, the will make up for it, with releasing watchmen under their name.

hey, but I dunno if i still should keep on boycotting fox since it is in the judje's hands not FOX. so technichally I think I should stop boycotting, since the judge is making the delay not FOX. dunno about that.

OOHHH GOD. I dunno about this, crap, I just wish the judje would just end this. i can say I am really excited about the movie. but really afraid that one day I'll enter movieweb to see that this movie would be cancled or something. Oh god this is soooo Depressing. I just wish somedaay they will end this crap.
I mean watchmen was pretty much made and produced by warner bros. this is called stealing whatever FOX did, not lawsuit. like siriously, someone pays money to do a project and then you just come and take it in a blink of an eye.
and all I have to say is the expression that makes me remember the COMEDIAN " GOD HELP US ALL ". LOLLLL.

If anyone is this judge nephew, child, or close kin please tell him to rule in favor of wb so that this movie will come out oxs has never been a studio that makes smart decision. Like for example the cancellation of popular tv shows family guy and futurama, they never wanted those shows until cartoon network(owned by wb) again took something they owned and made it popular again and the same thing is happening now lol

I think that The Watchmen will be released in its original March date because doing otherwise would risk alienating ticketbuyers & everyone's profits...DVD sales.
