Forest Whitaker and Sid Ganis Announce Oscar Nominations

The 81st Academy Awards® nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 22, by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Sid Ganis and Oscar-winning actor and Academy member Forest Whitaker.

Ganis and Whitaker will unveil the nominations in 10 of the 24 award categories at a 5:30 a.m. news conference at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, where hundreds of media representatives from around the world will be gathered. Nominations information for all categories will be distributed simultaneously to news media in attendance and via the Internet on the official Academy Awards Web site, www.oscar.com.

In 2006 Whitaker took home the Leading Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Idi Amin in The Last King of Scotland.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2008 will be presented on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

I do hope Mickey Rourke gets it too, outlaw, but i doubt it. They'll probably give it to an chump like Brad Pitt or someone else less deserving.

I really do not see Jackman changing his entire personality to host the Awards. I am expecting it to be similar to the Tony's. Also, he is not a big political person except for adoption rights in Australia.

    hugh jackman is hosting?
i just don't see it, but whatever. i guess it doesn't matter who hosts as long as their cue-card reading skills are sharp.

I wouldn't be surprised for Slumdog. In the past, oscars have awarded movies that are non deserving.

It's gonna be a great show. Never missed one since I was 6 years old. Jackmans should be good, too. Well....as long as he sticks to his thing, like what he did at the Tony Awards. If he tries to pull some popular stand-up routine sh*t, political jokes and whatnot, he's gonna bomb. But he's classy, and I think he'll do fine. Keep you eyes open for Slumdog Millionaire to be the underdog winner this year!

Hold on now. I thought they weren't going to give up nominations. They said it was supposed to be like a surprise. Is this sh*t even real.
