I'm not a HUGE fan of the originals but this has a shot. Slap Will Smith's name as producer, throw Jackie Chan's name in the flick and you have a box office success. Isn't that what it's all about these days? My question, why do they always incorporate Remember The Name. I mean the song is alright but it's time to move on and find something else... either way I'll see this.

verdict is in for me... actually does not look bad, and i too loved the original back in the day, but this really looks more like a reimagining than a remake. and AFC you are right Jaden smith proved that he can act which is a huge challenge being the kid of one of the worlds biggest stars. Chad your right to each their own though, and yes i have seen alot of trailers in my time, that looked horrible only to find out that i did like the film after seeing it, then again i have seen great trailers where the film is so so, it is a huge risk that we take. if anything this will be a good movie to go see with my son.

AnnoyingFilmCritic... wtf? Leave me alone dude. Seriously. Give me a break, I have to put up with Newkill everyday on this site, like I need another person who shouldn't be talking sh*t to me, fighting with me about absolutely nothing.

Uh, it's nice and all.. but I could be wrong but most of the style ISN'T karate.. Mr. Miyagi is a chinese guy from China, and the karate kid is black?? Uh... the only thing even remotely "Karate Kid" about this.. is a asian dude teaching an american kid... umm Is it just me, or is this NOT karate kid at all?? lmao. That being said, I'll watch it for the awesome fighting and Jackie Chan :)

I'll check it out. Yeah, the first was good. Then, they ruined it with sequels. Maybe this is a 'retelling' of the same underlying story that will 'reset' the image of the story. Definitely an 'update' - setting it in the heart of the 'evil red empire' by planting a (by all indications) inner-city youth in the midst of the 'natives'.

Looks like a decent spin, but could have forestalled a lot of negative impression with a slightly modified title.

... oh and who doesn't remember that scene in which Miyagi is trying to heal Dan by putting his palm on his chest and Dan was whining like a girl... Gosh I wonder if Dan was gay (or bi).

OK. I am sick and tired to read that Jackie Chan is beating up 9 years old kids....

ALL HE DID WAS BLOCKING AND DODGING!! And maybe he'll slap those kid's heads in the back but that's it...

You guys need to stop jumping to conclusions to fast cuz you sound really pathetic! Did you even see Jackie actually hitting one of those kids?? NO!

And besides, Daniel was a complete wuss and can't even defend himself alone. Miyagi was always there to save his ass at the last minute. I'm not saying this movie is good or not but stop pretending like the original 80s movie is like a masterpiece or something.

The only thing that works for this movie is the training looks more realistic than a bunch of chores that Daniel-san used to learn muscle memory. Jackie Chan beating up 10-year-olds just doesn't work. This was a remake that didn't need to be made. I wish that they had come up with an "original" story that would have allowed Jackie to train Jaden without being a blatant rip-off, sorry, re-make, of the original Karate Kid

i'm not saying this will be great, i'm just saying that everyone else seems to be over hating on it. i personally won't see this in theaters (unless my g/f wants me to, that would suck) but i can at least see the apply for other ppl. it looks like a well made movie, for tweens and kids.

Chad Vital, it seems that you want your cake and to eat it too...saying it looks dumb, that those who see it must not know any better...then, to justify your opinion, your tastes, you say, to each their own. Nice pretzel (or cake) logic there.

  28. The Narrator: The Better Man

Agreed BD. I will say my say... this looks like crap. A quick dim wit fun movie you will laugh at unintentionally and forget after a while except for the stupid cheesy moments then forget about it completely. Thats what it SEEMS like. However the first was never a classic. It wasn't close. At least not to me. So I barely care about this movie. Jackie needs to get back to when he was at least funny and entertaining.

It looks dumb, but to those people who don't know any better, they will go see it and it will make a lot of money lol. To each their own.

that really didn't look as bad as u r all making it out to be. it looks like they r at least redoing it with respect and not just sh*tting on the original. and besides like SpoilerGirl said the original isn't as great as ur making it out to be. this isn't a Wizard of Oz remake or Casablanca, its Karate Kid, there is alot to improve on. lets chill
