First Look at Timothy Olyphant in Lawman!

Lawman is a new FX series based on the popular Elmore Leonard character "Raylan Givens", as featured in his short story Fire in the Hole. Developed by Graham Yost (Boomtown, Speed) and staring Timothy Olyphant, Lawman will premiere on FX in spring of 2010. Olyphant stars in the lead role of Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens. Givens is a modern day 19th century-style lawman, enforcing his brand of justice in a way that puts a target on his back with criminals and places him at odds with his bosses in the Marshal service. That conflict results in a reassignment for Givens to the U.S. District covering the town where he grew up. He is an anachronism: A tough, soft-spoken gentleman who finds his quarry fascinating, but never gives an inch. Dig under his placid skin and you'll find an angry man who grew up hard in rural Kentucky, with an outlaw father, who knows a lot more about who he doesn't want to be than who he really is. We have your first look at Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens in this exciting new video from the series. To watch it, click on the clip below:

I have to admit, I'm pleasantly surprised by Olyphant in this clip. I've not seen him in much, but he's always been a "meh" in my limited opinion (hate to say I've never seen Deadwood). This looks really good and I think his performance is perfectly understated. This is the kind of role that would be easy for an actor to chew scenery in or play way too flat.

It Looks Good. I agree, Olyphant is farther under the Radar than he should be. Even though this character is quite similar to his one on Deadwood, I still think this will be good. Hope it lasts.

i think Timothy Olyphant is one of those unapreciated actors, he has range and i enjoy how he can be talking so suttle to someone and get his point across with alot of intimidation.
