New Line Cinema has unveiled the first photo from Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone's upcoming comedy Tammy. Melissa McCarthy stars as a troubled woman who finds out that her husband has been cheating, so she hits the road with her obnoxiously drunk grandmother (Susan Sarandon). Check out the photo, then take a look at what actress/writer Melissa McCarthy and writer-director Ben Falcone (making his directorial debut) have to say about this project that has been five years in the making, including details on a problematic U-turn scene, and how the married pair like to balance between comedy and drama.

Melissa McCarthy first worked with husband Ben Falcone in the hit comedy Bridesmaids, where they shared a memorable seduction scene on an airplane. The pair have been working together on Tammy for more than five years, and the actress reveals she's happy it all worked out in the end.

"It's been a long time coming and we're so glad this has finally worked out. (Ben) runs an incredibly delightful set, which is not surprising but great to see."

However, Ben Falcone joked that he isn't afraid to get tough with his actors.

"I have to break my actors down completely to get what I need."

Melissa McCarthy also talks about what drives her character to go on this road trip.

"She kind of loses every reason to be tethered to this town and she wants out. She doesn't exactly know where to go. But she doesn't want to be there. The only way out is with her grandmother, whom she's not particularly fond of."

Once again, Ben Falcone will share a memorable scene with his wife when the movie opens in theaters nationwide this summer.

"I play a real creepy guy. I'm just kind of creepy, so it works."

Melissa McCarthy also reveals that there is a fine balance of comedy and drama held in this project.

"It's definitely a comedy, but we like to walk the gray area between the comedy and drama; we like that mix."

The actress went onto describe a problematic scene where they had to make a U-turn in a massive Cadillac. It was a scene that eventually got cut from the movie.

"You needed six full lanes to make a U-turn in that boat. It was like, 'Are you kidding?' A 22-minute turnaround scene was not as effective as we hoped."

Ben Falcone adds that he plans to use a much smaller car, if he ever makes another road trip movie.

"There's not a good turn radius on that thing. If I do another road movie, it's going to be in a small car."

Another difficult part of making the movie was juggling their work with raising daughters Vivian, 6 and Georgette, 4.
