I think she did care, LEO. I blame the publishers. You get something this hot going, and it's all you got, the publishers contract you to write as fast as you can, thus, losing out on the quality that a writer spends years drafting and redrafting, which makes any work better. Same reason why a lot of people didn't like Breaking Dawn as much. The writer was rushed. I hope I can avoid that trap. I have to redraft stuff at least twice before I let anyone read it.

Oh yeah, and I hated book 5. Absolutely hated it. The movie was even worse :P

I completely agree with Atreus... concerning the last three books. I will admit that the first four were great. They had all the likeable elements that I find interesting. But J.K. Rowling completely lost me after that and here's why...

Order Of the Phoenix: Made Harry an Emo and killed off the only true family he had, furthering his emo-ness.

Half-Blood Prince: Got morbidly and obesely dark, almost as if she was trying to appease to goth kids, vampire kids and emo kids. Also, included nothing new to the style to express individuality from the previous books.

Deathly Hollows: J.K. stuck the pictures of all her characters on a dartboard, and whoever she hit with a dart, she killed. Lather, rinse, repeat. She thought that killing off every likeable character for what seemed no reason at all was reason enough to make a story. Well guess what, Rowling? It didn't.

To me, it's like she finished writing the fourth book, became richer than the queen of england, and decided that she didn't have to care anymore. So I have seen Order of The Phoenix, but I did not see it in theatres. And I have plans to do the same with Half-Blood Prince. Now, please don't take offense to me, Harry Potter fans. I respect your liking for the last three books for whatever reasons you may come up with. Everyone has different tastes. But I personally have no intention whatsoever to see this movie. If I happen to rent it or see it on television, though, I will. But I'm not excited for these last three movies at all.

miss_kayti, I guess you have a point. However, I'm still really peeved that #5 was the longest book and yet the movie has the shortest running time out of all of them. I just don't see why the last one can't just be one film. The first half is slow and droll compared to the second half, with the climax. I'm just hoping after they're all done there will be one big massive saga extended version package. That's what I'm waiting for.

Diaigma, no way, the last book could never just be one 3-hour movie. That would've completely ruined it. I thanked the Gods (and I'm an atheist ) when they decided to make it two films. I mean, they've really only done it to make more money but that doesn't bother me, even if they're doing the right thing for the wrong reasons it's still the right thing :-)

I agree with all of you haha. You all made good points and it's almost rare to see people being valid and cool on a topic throughout the ENTIRE topic besides maybe one comment (pype's). That in itself is impressive lol. But anyway, back to the topic at hand, I haven't read ANY of the books. Watched the movies however. Didn't like the first 2 but noticed they were getting better as they went along. And if you really think about it, Harry Potter is pretty original. The story anyway. There is nothing like it. Unless you try to say Hocus Pocus and Merlin are similiar lol. Name a movie that's just like any Potter film? Of course the structure will be the same, a main villian (who is evil) versus a main good guy. That will always be there in any story. But there are layers in the story that I like like I don't know if Snape is good or bad, and I like that a lot. I like Alan Rickman anyway, but they make you kinda hate him and like him at the same time, which is cool cause it keeps you guessing. I don't know what his end role is in the books since I haven't read any of the books. I'm just going off of the films. I think it's an interesting storyline that's different than most movies. I mean if you think about it, Harry Potter is like an alien among other "normal" films like Gran Torino and chick flicks like 27 Dresses or whatever. I mean, it's about wizards for crying out loud, that's pretty nerdy, and the fact that it has such a successful fan base is pretty amazing. That means a lot of people are nerdy lol. I mean look now at the common film, guess what it is, comic book movie adaptations are now mainstream cinema. You know why? Nerds. lol I don't really consider myself a "nerd" but obviously we have nerdism inside of us since all of us provide box office revenue to these nerdy films. Nothing wrong with that at all, if anything, it's awesome. Fans rule a movie's success plain and simple. I'm obsessed with Ghostbusters and it's not even THAT AMAZING OF FILM but it brings out the imagination and creativity in me and makes me laugh while doing it. That's a great task to achieve with people.

Atreus has my kudos. Few fans are willing to admit that Harry Potter is good but not great; and certainly not an Heptalogy of Dickensian stature as some people seem to believe. Good statements.

Sorry, my previous comment was too short to fully convey my opinions and emotions on the subject. I hold nothing against those who do enjoy Harry Potter - after all, I have read all the books and seen all the movies myself. I will admit, they are good - yet I never get a sense of greatness which accompanies other great movies and pieces of literature. Incmob, as you said, it does add an escapist element - particularly for youth and children who are going through the difficult times that come with their age. It was that dream of being somewhere different which attracted me to the books in the first place.

Still, for my own two cents, I can not hail the works as being "great". Good, yes; great, no. If you observe the overall character and plot progression, is stays relatively static. Each story tends to be a repeat of the one before - just with bigger and more fascinating magical elements. The ultimate climax was.... underwhelming, lacking in the growth and self-realization one would hope for in the situation.

Now, please, before you tear apart what I say, understand that I hold nothing against those who care for this series, or for the creators of the films and original stories. I am just fascinated by how far this series has come when, upon looking at the big picture, it does not seem to pioneer any new ground.

I will probably still see it - magical eye-candy is always nice to come by - but it will never hold a place in my heart like some other stories do.

The books are not the greatest, but the story is phenomenal, as a whole, I mean. Very intricate. That's part of the reason why it got so popular. Still like the books better than the movies. They should make Deathly hallows a 3 hr movie, not a two part. That's just bogus.

i agree. Everyone has obsession over many things in media. Some endulge in star wars, the matrix films had fanatics, even music has fans that drop huge digits just to go see them live... point is that movies and books, and even music is escapism. I am a huge star wars fan, but would i say that star wars is movie making at its greatest... probably not. In literature potter were books that thrived on helping create a world for kids and adults, i even started out not liking the first three films, but gradually have felt better about them as they have have gone darker. To say a film or book is "sh*t" without so much as trying to hate it for a reason is senseless. And the reason why it has made so much money is because there is a huge fan base... it makes money by earning money from those that enjoy it. Again my personal experience... PHANTOM MENACE... it made millions... I for one even saw it at least 5 or 6 times in the theatre, but it was a mess of a film, but was nevertheless successfull, for the simple fact that it was branded as a star wars film. It makes me laugh to see how many on here can state their opinions without having any sense of realism to back up there statements.

You know... from a literature standpoint, Harry Potter is not even very good story. Certainly not the Billion-dollar industry which has given rise to eight box-office-breaking movies. None of it is bad, mind you, its just I don't feel there should be the obsession some people have with all this.
