@messenger no i understand what you were saying. You are right, it was a tough movie to watch for veterans of WWII just like watching Restrepo was very hard for me. I was in North Korengal Valley so i completly understand.

@dan1 Since you know more about GL, and they are supposed to be the guardians of the universe, how come they didn't evacuate Krypton?

Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to make my grandfather's experience to stand out more than anyone elses, it certainly effected war heroes.

@messenger That was very common i saw grown men crying. Spielberg really hit home with that one. Hell it was even hard for me to watch.

@messenger Then again, I haven't seen Platoon yet, so that probably didn't help to much either.

My grandfather is in the WWII and he couldn't watch Saving Private Ryan in one sitting. He had to watch in multiple viewings. He said it was well done but no movie could capture what it was like. I actually have an authentic nazi flag he brought home from the war.

I know Green Latern will be a successful moderate hit, but it doesn't seem to be gaining as much hype as the Marvel movies are(Xmen: First Class & Captain America), I wonder how much it will debut at the box-office when it comes out.

@messenger It's true. I'm 17 and just barely figured out he's in Platoon via commercial :P

@daveactor7 Indeed, they better. Hate it when everything for a movie falls perfectly into place but there's one little detail that keeps bugging the sh*t out of you. The CG should never have been an afterthought, especially for a movie like GL which heavily depend on CG.

Whatever the issues may be in the first film will undoubtedly be solved when the sequel comes out, though.

Kilowog's character animations doesn't seem to have any weight to him when he i.e. smells Hal Jordan. Got this cartoonish (have mentioned this few times now) feel to the hole animation, just seems weird. There is no subtlety, i don't know... it's hard to explain.

@messenger ya i hear what your saying and of course it makes sense to "sale" the movie. However, my uncle was in vietnam (the same unit that i was in fact 1st ID 2-2 which is weird because the old timers remeber hte name...my last name and my uncles name are the same...Holtzclaw so its easy to reember. He told me that platoon was very hokey but he prederred Hambergur Hill which he says was the most realistic vietnam movie.

I will only buy 3 movies on BR that I already have on DVD

    The Professional
    The Big Lebowski
    Talk Radio

Those are my three favorite films of all time.

Buying a BR converted movies looks better than DVD but not enough to make me want to go out and buy it again.

Yeah he's a big star now so anyone under the age of 18 who knows of Johnny Depp will be like "ooooh he's in that movie?" and they most likely will go out and at least rent it.

@messenger hah! Its funny to hear that line "Cease Fire Ceasre Fire" the way he says it over and over. And also...I wouldnt say Johnny Depp is a STAR of Platoon, more like a guest appearence. Yes?

  27. Messenger

For f*ck sake MW I already own Platoon.

Damnit everything looks perfect but the CG in this movie. The acting, the scenes and story seems to hold true to the Green Lantern universe but why does the CG have to look like crap?

I'm reaaaaally hoping those $9 million did something to improve that CG quality.
