First Avatar Trailer Debuts Thursday, August 20th

There hasn't been anything quite like the hype ramping up towards James Cameron's first film in nearly twelve years. 20th Century Fox has even declared August 21st Avatar Day. What is that, exactly? The day audiences worldwide get their first taste of the new sci-fi mo-cap fantasy film, of course. The presentation will consist of the never-before-seen trailer and footage from the film that was previously screened for select crowds at Comic-Con 2009. Now, according to Apple, the online debut of the trailer has been moved ahead one day, to August 20th.

The Avatarcount down clock has even been updated to reflect the change. We now only have 4 days and counting until we're able to reveal in the magic that is James Cameron's latest opus. Starring Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana, and Giovanni Ribisi, the film follows the amazing adventures of ex-Marine Jake Sully as he becomes lost on an unexplored world full of amazing inhabitants. Word coming out of Comic-Con is that this immersive 3D film feels and looks like nothing ever seen before it.

The Avatar trailer hits this Thursday, August 20th. More footage from the film can be seen in IMAX on Avatar day, August 21st. And the full-length feature film will hit theaters on December 18th, 2009.

Avatar was released December 18th, 2009 and stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel Moore, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez, Laz Alonso. The film is directed by James Cameron.

Lol. J.A. your comment about Spain and Brazil having some hott woman... is spot on! Lol. Sorry, sidetracked.

Anyways, as others said, the hype is killing this movie. But I expect Fox to pull a fast one, and for the last two months before the movie comes, to CONSTANTLY bombard the entertainment world. T.V spots on every other channel, every entertainment magazine and show with "exclusive" coverage. But yeah, right now tha fans are the only ones who know about this, and they are getting ticked of Cameron being an egotistical bitch. Don't get me wrong, he is a great director and I love his movies but he is a bit out of touch with manners, and self centered. That said this movie will bomb big, or succeed big.

LOL that was my bad on the blade runner part, not all here lately too much work and issues going on, lol.
I get the 2 old wash-ups mixed up lol, seriously Spielberg, Cameron & Scott all 3 of them need to retire.

LOL i actually liked the beginning of that first paragraph, Delgren, touche.
True Lies & Aliens are brilliant and Aliens is probably one of the finest sequels ever made next to T2.
But as you state to each their own.

T2 to me is the definitive action movie of all time, and well no matter what Cameron brings out he won't top that.

Also apologise to Gato, if i offended you, i respect the way you replied in a formal manner to my uncawful comment :)
But Spain & Brazil do have the hottest girls, thats one thing you gotta love about the countries

I have yet to meet any female dogs that can speak spanish, I guess since your a mongrel you can communicate with them. And how do you f*ck up Bladerunner being directed by Ridley Scott? tis tis tis. I guess you have to be some dumb ass motherf*cker huh?

Insults aside, I think Cameron has a great catalogue of work, everything he's done has been on spot. To say that T2 is his best movie and arguing that point makes you a dumb ass mother f*cker, is a dumbass mother f*cking statement to begin with. All taste is subjective, one mans trash is another mans treasure, I might love Ride the Lightning, but you might like Master of Puppets. I personally love Aliens and True Lies, those are my favorites, I don't think they are the best because all his catalogue is good, but they are the ones I like the most.

i'll go with "J.A.Ottley" with this one here.T2 is kinda Cameron's signature piece...i believe it'll always will be like...it'll be really tough 2 top that movie..although i m keeping my fingers crossed...but the hype around this one is just killing me & becoming very annoying...specially when i found out one of the 2latest pic from Avatar is Cameron with camera on his shoulder...now,who wants 2 see that???...JESUS!...the trailer or whatever better be worth this "soon to become ridiculous" hype.
...p.s: to J.A.Ottley,Bladerunner is directed by Ridley Scott...not Cameron.

Knowing Cameron it will be about 1 minute, probably an introduction to the film's backstory or prologue with some visuals

ed...we all have read about this "revolutionary", "megabudget", "supercameron", out of this world movie, for quite some time...we don't want to be "mega dissapointed"... that's all

I must agree, this had better be a full trailer. But I don't understand why so many people want this movie to fail. I'll judge once I see the trailer.

they hype is a little exaggerated, which makes most of us skeptical...anyone that compares two movies that are different genre needs an IQ test, i am actually excited to see this movie and shadowfox said it best, this has to be a 3 min mind blowing expierence to make me forget what movie i paid to see

  15. J.A.Ottley.Writer / Director

hmmmm unusual usually my bitches speak in Spanish to me.

    I concur with Soylent.
We haven't seen nothing on this film yet, so Cameron better have something to f*cking amaze the world.
He hasn't realised yet that hype kills films, well except TDK lol, because the marketing scheme and hype lasted and succeeded the year it maintained through.
And Cloverfield was another with its brilliant mysterious viral marketing.

But it aint about visuals no more, its becoming more and more about story and substance.
Cameron thinks his some god, because of Titanic, when hsi best work was and always will be undoubtdely Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Sorry i don't care if anyone here thinks Avatar will be better than T2, if you disagree take an IQ test. Because you gotta be one dumb ass muthaf*cker to disagree.

    T2 = James Cameron's best work...

Then its probably a touch one between Aliens & Blade Runner

"...the magic that is James Cameron's latest opus."

How the f*ck can they make a statement like that?! What have we seen? Zoe Saldana's blue face, Sam Worthington's face, and Jim Cameron's disgusting mug holding a f*cking camera.

If this movie isn't the greatest science fiction film ever made, f*ck it.

LOL. Don't even get me started with "Gone with the Wind". :P

I agree, J.A. The hype is way out of hand. Would you wait to release a trailer for a 300 million movie just 4 months before release? I wouldn't. Even Pixar's smart enough to advertise a year in advance :P

What is the deal with the Titanic haters. It will one day be remembered as one of the great movies in romantic cinema history, alone with Gone With the Wind. I'm not a bitch or p*ssy or anything, I just like the lore of the Titanic. It's ghostly mistery and the history of it's creation to it's demise. James Cameron captured all of this on film with the help of James Horner's haunting score. "It was the ship of dreams. It really was". So deal with it. It is a fine piece of cinematic work, to be sure. And the special effects were state of the art at the time. They still hold up great.

This better be something f*cking amazing...

The hype is killing this movie

Otherwise i smell another Titanic, this time sinking with James Cameron on it.
Also this has Fox attached who haven't had a good run of films this year, or the past couple of years.

Can they redeem themself with Avatar?

What would be classic if the same thing that happened to Wolverine happened to this.
Now that would be the best comedy of the year and a great way to end it lol.

  25. Vanboy

I agree that the build up might "Sink" it. I love James Camerons movies. They all heave that cameron feel to them. Hopefully he hasn't lost that in the twelve years yes been on holiday. He actually has done another movie since Titanic. Does anyone remember "Ghosts of the Abyss"? It was kind of like a doc*mentorized (is that a word) sequel to Titanic. He actually went down with Bill Paxton in a submersible to Titanic and filmed in Hi Def 3D. I think it's the movie that got the 3D ball rolling again. It was f**ing amazing to see the bow of the ship totally lit up and in your face. The silt in the water was the most surprisingly wowing aspect. All the silt floating independently, created such depth, that it was something to behold. Cameron has been dormant for a while. People have put him on the make or break pedestal. I really hope this works, and it's not like kingbrady and loganforand suggest it might be, which I fear also.
